So I bought an xbox 360 this weekend in anticipation for GTA4. My roommate already has one, but but we're both going to buy a copy of GTA4 because we want to play multiplayer. hopefully it lives up to the hype. and ratings. everyone votes it a perfect game. I do very much like the sandbox type games. I was a fan of the original GTA1 and 2 from a gameplay perspective, even though it didn't have a ton of content. And I got done playing Assassin's Creed which was another fun sandbox style game, but repetitive and not very creative as far as "quests".
I find games like that very cathartic. for example, in Assassin's Creed beggars constantly come up to you, stand in your way and beg and beg and beg for money with every sob story. you shove them out of the way and they run up in front of you again. after living in downtown atlanta for 10 years, i cannot stand people who beg on the street. so it feels very satisfying to use my hidden blade and casually slide it into her heart and keep walking like nothing happened as you start to hear "what's wrong with her?" behind you. Because you get to do the things you wish you could in real life. Now, that's not the case with everything because I don't want to have sex with a hooker, and then run her down to get my money back, but it is fun to do in GTA.
