I understand that the general trend is to bigger and bigger refrigerators that have all sorts of nifty features like cooking dinner for you, helping the kids with homework, and possibly cleaning out the cat litter but geez...turns out I have a choice of exactly three models if I want a simple white fridge that will fit in my little 1947 kitchen* delivered this week (and today, tomorrow, or Wednesday are right out). Of course, if I want to wait 4-6 weeks the options really open up. Then again, I am shopping for a new refrigerator not out of a burning desire to spend a stray $1200 or so but because the compressor on my existing fridge announced it's imminent death this morning and I can't see tossing $450 into a new compressor for a 19 year old appliance.
Mind, it's not all spartan living 'round here: I am planning to go all out decadent and get an ice maker this time! W00t!
ETA - I don't mean three models from a particular store, I mean having checked Sears, Home Depot, Lowe's, Best Buy, and seven local places I am left with a choice of three acceptable models.
*I get that this would be easier if it didn't need to:
be <30.8 inches wide
have a left hand door swing
have a bottom freezer
be energy star rated
life is messy
