Off to Maine for fab time with Sib 1, SIL and my amazing niece. My amazing niece (man?) is picking The Boy and I up in Portland late tonight and schlepping us back to her place near Bethel. As hard as it is to imagine from the here and now we'll be skiing Sunday River in about 25 hours!

It's been ages since The Boy and I had an adventure on our own. We're leaving Dave behind in the clutches of bill filing deadlines and the Committee of the Senate as a Whole and such. We are mean, yes.

Rather less the successful outing to Spam a Lot for the guys last night. At nearly the last moment we learned that our nephew had not been able to get tickets so I offered him mine (to his great delight and almost incoherent thanks). But The Boy had built up some fairly unrealistic expectations of the awesomeness of the show and when combined with a long day, not eating much at dinner and then being (predictably) starving halfway through the production, his conviction that his BFF was ignoring/shunning him at dinner (see above)  - I think his BFF was tired and hungry and eating at the time but ymmv - and you've got a firestorm of cranky tween and tired, overworked dad feeling spawn is insufficiently respectful. Sigh. I don't see how my presence would have made any of it better but they cam home tired and irritated and mad at each other and ready to blame me. Such is the life of a peacemaker.
