The Rules of the Game - a short list of "rules" for surviving the world of Silent Hill. For nakitamanomiko, to make it easier to play in that 'verse. ♥
Silent Hill. "The town that takes all." Whether a bizarre figment of our imaginations, a desecrated holy ground, or merely a town haunted by an incredibly powerful, inexorably angry spirit, whether you survive your steps into its shadows, one cannot deny the power of the place. Don't come here, to this sleepy little tourist town, for if you've a mark on your soul, it will find it, and there will be no peace for you here, and no living with yourself once you have left.
It seeks out the dark places within your heart, like a clawing hand and rends them apart, trapping you in its nightmare and never letting go. Stay far from here. Turn back -- if you can. It will destroy you utterly.
If it is already too late, let me leave you this advice on the nature of this world and what you will find within. I can only hope that it is of use.

1. This place will make you mad. It will destroy what sanity you lay claim to, and sit in the shadows of your soul, and if it can, it will force you to end your own life. Beware. Watch yourself, know your own mind; feel and dismiss the paranoia and the betrayal you sense.

2. There are "two" Silent Hills. The one, which you see now with your own eyes, appears as a perfectly normal town, albeit vacant of human population and instead peopled with monsters. The other -- the Nightmare Silent Hill -- is a place of demons, blood and rust. Stay out of the Nightmare realm if at all possible! It is dangerous there, and if you die there you are dead as surely as if you had died where you are standing now.

3. You will never be free if you do not heed your surroundings. SOLVE THE PUZZLES! They play word games with your head, but they are all perfectly solveable. Your only chance to survive is to play the games.

4. Don't get too attached to your fellow travelers. Anyone who has found themselves in this place is doomed to a painful death. The only one that you can trust is yourself. The only one that you can pull through this nightmare is yourself.

5. THE HOSPITAL IS NOT SAFE.

6. Do not hesitate to shoot what moves. There are monsters here the nature of which you cannot comprehend.
