Oh Yes! And a Kenny update!
Kenny has had a rough weekend but the good news is that we FINALLY know what's wrong with him and, furthermore, its treatable.
It is, however, bizarre. My brother has a yeast infection--in his bloodstream.
This occurred through some complex convergence between the flu he had, way back when, which leaked yeast from the gut into the bloodstream, and something to do with his infusa-port, which is a little thing implanted on his chest wall (on the other side from the vegus nerve implant) which allows us to tap a line to give IV antibiotics more easily.
The port is coming out tomorrow. Additional tests are being done to figure out what strain(s) of yeast are present, but broad-spectrum anti-fungals are being administered even as we speak.
Three huzzahs for infectious disease specialists who can figure this out.
Hopefully they'll be home by Monday.
