Kenny and my mom came home from the hospital today. His liver function is pretty normal again but he's not out the woods yet--they're still having a hard time managing his secretions, vomiting, and oxygen levels. It looks like they have a good plan in place for managing his care from home though where at least, as Mom says, she can control the kinds of mistakes being made. It's still entirely unclear whether or not she'll be able to come out and see me next week.
The hospital visit was...well, awful on most every level. Check out my Mom's journal,
ohmyqueen to see just part of what went wrong. Suffice to say that the hospital couldn't even get something as simple as writing Kenny a prescription for albuterol right. (They sent him home with a nebulizer, but not with any arrangements to get the medicine needed to get such a thing to actually WORK.)
Mom started asking to see a patient advocate Friday afternoon after they were admitted. She never did see one. The health care system in this country is well and truly broken. Don't ever leave someone you love alone in a hospital, ok?
