Our independence day is on septembre 18th. That day is a national holiday, as the next day, sept. 19th.
And since 18th is tuesday, our lovely Congress decided to declare this year's september 17th as a holiday too!! Understandable for everybody who knows something about chilean idiosincrasy: No one in their right minds would want to go to work on monday 17th, breaking a nice saturday-sunday-monday-tuesday-wednesday vacation!
Now. This even lovelier University will suspend all activities tomorrow at noon. And because of that, the official celebration for the students is today in the afternoon. Which means that, a while ago when I went to my class, I had only four students. I had no choice but suspend that class!
And since tomorrow I don't have any class, they already gave me permission to NOT come...
But wait, it gets better and better!!! I was just informed, three minutes ago, while I typed the first lines of this entry, that NEXT THURSDAY AND FRIDAY the university will be closed too!!!
It's only logical, right? After a celebration that will last friday, saturday, sunday, monday, tuesday and wednesday... who would want to work on thursday and friday? WE'll NEED SOME TIME TO RECOVER, PEOPLE!!
LOLOLOLOLOLOL.
No, let's get serious. Apparently the university will close those two days because there's an epidemic of german measles going on. *shudders* THAT'S also the reason why they told me not to come tomorrow. I've heard that they're sending all the pregnant women home as soon as possible.
I don't remember if I had the german measles... even my mother isn't sure... anyway, this disease is very dangerous to women until 20 weeks in the pregnancy, because it can have serious consecuences for the baby. I'm 24 weeks already, but that doesn't mean that I'm not going to take some precautions.
AND if those precautions involve to have 8 days of vacations... that's even better for me!!! ^_^
Well, I'm leaving now. Off to the celebrations!!! Feliz 18 para todos!!!
VIVA CHILE!!!!!!!!!!!
