good nights sleep is helpful.  note to self: don't accidentally watch scary CSI episodes about axe murderurs while waiting for a phone call to go say goodbye to two of your oldest friends from home.  I've gotten rid of last night's post-goodbye entry because I think it's kind of overly angsty (not me) and puts the blame in the wrong places.  chalk it up to being upset over Andrew leaving and Dana leaving and that end of summer feeling where you realize you'll never have as much time in any given location or any distinct time period or with any group of people as you would like.

I read a short story recently about the conflict between notions of infinity and the finite nature of time.  It was really cool.  If I hadn't read like half of that book of short stories in one sitting, I'd probably be able to tell you which one it was and to recommend it.  Alas.

and of course I just had a wonderful conversation with Maya that helped me put everything back into perspective, as conversations with Maya almost always do.  not everything has to be epic, these comings and goings are a natural part of our schedule and will happen many more times.  so it's okay for goodbyes to not resonate the way they should in old misty black and white films, and it doesn't mean you'll miss people any less as a result.

word.

in other news, I got a pretty funny series of photos yesterday from my dad giving my brother a haircut.  It starts with Peter sitting in a chair in the back yard sipping a beer while dad gets the electric razor ready, and ends with some nice shots of Peter's new bald spot and crooked bottom hair line.  priceless!

goodbye, summer, musings, home, friends
