I was lucky to grow up in a household where my folks NEVER gave a flip about what I was listening to music-wise. I could listen to their old records, watch music videos on tv (when they sort of thing moved to network tv), and later spend my $$$ on whatever I wanted from Columbia House Music Club (was anyone else a member???). I don't know if it was that my folks were super permissive or just that they didn't worry that music was in any way going to lead me astray. They were right... music did not hook me into drugs or drinking or promiscuity. I even dated a drummer for a bit and did get sucked into much sin. So for all the fear in society about music's bad influence, it's never harmed me.
