Mini-Update

I've mentioned this in passing to some folks, but I have a job until the end of May. I'm officially an Asst. Prop Master on this Independent film. Long hours and low pay, but it's interesting so far. Keeping me hella busy, though. More details may follow if I have time.

A question though, beyond the duties of props and such as that, I've been asked to help organize graphics for the film. Liason with artists to make sure stuff gets done on time, and that it's the right stuff. Additionally, I have to make sure the computers have been tested and can play/render the graphics for the actual scenes during shooting, then show the necessary folks what to do. All of that is beyond the job desc of an Asst. Prop Master. If I were to get a different credit on the film, what would folks suggest? It's something like a Technical Director, but I don't think I can get that one. Are there other good ones that would help me professionally?

As a side comment on filming. When asked about the Grips who work on films, my boss just shrugged and said 'They're Grips.' I didn't quite understand that at the time, but since having met some it seems eerily appropriate. Big guys, somewhat coarse and sarcastic humor, and I guess the best word is raucaus. It was kinda funny. I'm learning all sorts of film terms.

Lastly, I watched the JLA: The New Frontier movie the other night. Best line was from Batman to the Martian Manhunter, "I spent 70 million to get a sliver of rock to take care of the one in Metropolis, for you all I'd have to do is spend a penny for a book of matches." (Or something like that, you get the gist)

Ok, that's it. Off to experience first day of shooting, wish me luck!
