1-Year Checkup Stats

Oct 19, 2009 15:23

Aside from the pink eye, Gabriel's stats from today's checkup are:

22 pounds, 13 ounces - 50th percentile
32 1/4 inches long - 95th percentile!

Looks like he inherited the same male Mullen metabolism that his uncle geckoboy has: tall and skinny. My uncle has that, and so does one of my cousins. At the rate he's going, Gabriel will be taller than both me and Carlos when he enters the second grade.

The doctor was very impressed with his growth spurt.

She said that he's perfectly on track with his development even though he's not walking yet and only says "Mama" and "Dada," wants us to quit formula and switch to whole milk for his 3am-5am bottle and periodically through the day (which I suspected, but wanted the doc's ok first), and no more baby food. He's to eat only real people food now: beans, soft veggies and fruit, toast, rice, cereal, apple sauce, yogurt. He's already eating yogurt, apple sauce, and toast every day, but no more jars of food twice a day. So while the prescription for his pink eye antibiotic ointment was being filled I bought him some whole milk, new sippy cups, a little spill-proof snacking container, and cans of Annie's mac n' cheese, beans, and vegetables. He loves his snacking container - as soon as I gave it to him he pulled out all the Cheerios and pieces of toast and scattered them around the living room. And he dumped all his whole milk onto his high chair tray during lunch.

I have to keep him away from other children until Wednesday, so no playgroup today and no daycare tomorrow. Thursday will be the only day this week that he goes to daycare because I have a hair appointment and some writing assignments. I told his daycare provider about the pink eye, and posted on the playgroup message boards about it since he started coughing and rubbing his eyes on Friday and we just had a playgroup the day before. So far no other kids have it, but all the moms thanked me for the head's up. I only did what I'd want someone else to do if Gabriel played with their kid and then that child got pink eye. I feel bad for Gabriel, though. Aside from coughing and rubbing his eyes, he's playful and happy as ever. Right now he's napping, but tomorrow I might bundle him up and take him to the park just to crawl around the grass for a while so he gets some fresh air and gets out of the apartment. Poor little guy! In 3 full weeks he's been 100% healthy for all of four days.
