Samsung Captivate

Recently, work offered me a new-to-me phone and to pay for my service. Any data I use over the cap is no big deal, they just come to me for the $$$. So I went for it, right? I mean, the Samsung Captivate, a Galaxy S phone, is hardware-wise about equivalent to my G2. And my G2 has been dropped, rained on, and half-rooted in the past, so something new and spiffy seemed pretty interesting.

Well.

Once I got the thing upgraded to Froyo (apparently AT&T did not do an OTA upgrade for this phone), it seemed like a smooth transition. For maybe two days. Then there was lagginess that frustrated me. I realized it didn't have LEDs, but that was ok, since the LEDs on my G2 had been broken since day 1 anyway, so I got an app (thanks Cheryl!) that lights up my screen and shows me when I have new notifications. I didn't like the alarm clock, so I got an app that Keebler uses to replace it.

The worst thing about this phone is that sometimes, probably once or twice a day, the touchscreen stops responding. Other buttons work, but not the touchscreen. I have to pull the battery to reset it, since of course the power off option is ON THE TOUCHSCREEN.

This happened when I went to bed last night after plugging it in to charge. I reset it, was working fine. Then my alarm went off and I couldn't snooze or dismiss for the second time this week. THAT pisses me off.

So, my final word is that if someone is upgrading and offers you a Samsung Captivate, you should probably take it and then save someone the misery by rolling over it with your car.
