So much for the school holidays being a time to relax… I’ve been so busy that I’ve barely had time to scratch myself! Let’s see if I can get through some sort of update!
On the last day school I found out that Maddy had received a Credit in the Australia Mathematics Testing Programme. I didn’t even know she’d been tested and neither did another parent know her son had been tested either (they were the only two year sixes to receive credits - the rest of the mentions were year sevens). Anyway, I’ll be asking her teacher about it when school resumes next week, just for curiosity’s sake.
The first Saturday of the school holidays we had Tori’s netball team’s windup. We went to a fun park in the next town south of us. The girls had fun, even though Maddy got sick after being on the rides (she recovered immediately and resumed eating her lunch - only my kid!).
Saturday night we went to a friend’s house for a bbq. It was a great night.
On Wednesday I took my girls to the Royal Show, which is our annual country meets city carnival. We had a great time and it was wonderful just to have a girls’ day out. The show itself was a little disappointing in contrast to years gone by. There were far less displays to look at and less animals overall, but far more show rides and show bags - everything was simply about money! Tori bought a ‘dress’ at the show and decided to show her big brother when we got home:
Tori: Do you like my new dress?
Mitch: That’s a shirt.
Tori: It’s a dress!
Mitch: You’re wearing it as a shirt!
I have to agree with him, because the ‘dress’ only just covers what it must on the bottom end.
Thursday my sister-in-law dropped in with her family. They had just spend four days down south and were on their way home.
Saturday we delivered our girls to my sister-in-law’s house and got our hair done *whee* I had about two inches cut off mine and had my blonde streaks done again.
Monday Hubby broke the truck again *sigh* The clutch rod snapped or something. Anyway, he had it fixed the same day, but it took all day. Of course, with the truck at the mechanic it was a prime opportunity to introduce Mitch to his future boss (he starts his work experience next week!). The fact that this had me driving back and forth to the mechanic twice in the same day wasn’t quite in the day’s plan, but it’s not like I had much choice.
Hubby did treat me to dinner and a movie after all the running around *g* We saw Up in 3D, which probably wasn’t worth the extra ticket price, but never mind.
In between all of the above there have been a billion little things that have cropped up and needed my attention, mostly out of the house - I’ve never run around so much! I literally haven’t had a full day at home to do whatever needs doing here in weeks.
We’ve had a few days of really nice Spring weather, so I’ve been trying to get all the bed linens washed - heavy blankets, doonas, etc… I finally finished all that today, along with getting the rest of the house cleaned properly. The plan was to get it all finished before Mitch’s core strength course in the afternoon, but as I was mopping the floors after dinner I failed in that respect.
I had to tell my son to have a shave today *gasp* He kissed my forehead and his chin brushed my face - his prickly chin!
The girls come home tomorrow afternoon. I guess I decide if this is a good thing or not once they arrive. I’ve been so busy I haven’t had time to miss them.
I know I had heaps more to say, but my mind has gone blank *sigh* It’ll all come back to me eventually…
