Such a tragedy

Much of today has been spent in a state of semi-shock. Of course, everyone over here is talking about Heath Ledger and what a tragedy his passing is. Our local news, which generally runs for an hour (including thirty minutes of current affairs) allowed forty-five minutes just on Heath and that was on two of the three commercial channels (I don’t know what the third did).

My heart goes out to his little girl, who won’t actually remember her father. But mostly, I feel for his family here in Western Australia. They found out about their son’s death the same way we all did - they heard it on the morning news. I can’t imagine what that would have been like for them.

However, I do know that Heath did spend Christmas with his family and only flew back to NY just after New Year. It wasn’t a publicized visit or anything and most didn’t even realize he was in town until after he’d left. He actually phoned our major newspaper’s film editor and left a message of thanks to the local media and the people of Perth for allowing him some privacy over here to enjoy the time with his family. I only read the article a couple of weeks ago in the paper and I thought of it as soon as I heard the news this morning.

In other news, I think I’ve finally convinced hubby that I need a bigger car and simply don’t want another small car (no matter how great they might be for running around town) *yay* He took me to see a rather pretty Holden Commodore this afternoon, not that we’re ready to make a decision yet, but looking is fun *g*

deaths, car
