Wow I must have needed some sleep desperately! I’d promised my girls that we’d watch the Heath Ledger Tribute together (some really nice commentary followed by A Knight’s Tale and The Patriot) last night. Well, I struggled to make it through A Knight’s Tale and failed completely with The Patriot. I guess I really shouldn’t watch tv while lying on my bed ;P Especially not after having a rather sizable vodka *giggles* Anyway, I feel a lot better this morning after a good night’s sleep, even if the train woke me up just after 7am with its horn.
Yesterday I decided to head to the bookstore (no, not the fun one, the educational one). I got all but one of the textbooks Mitch and Tori need for the upcoming school year. The one I’m missing was out of stock, so I’ve ordered it. Unfortunately, hubby decided to come with me and found the store fascinating *rolls eyes* He kept trying to convince me to buy extra books for Mitch on mechanics, even though he won’t need them until next year or the year after. These books aren’t cheap! They started at $40 and moved up from there. I think he finally gave up when my eyes glazed over *smirk* As far as mechanics books go, they are priced very reasonably - I remember some of hubby’s costing over $100 when he was doing his apprenticeship and post qualification studies. But it doesn’t change the fact that they were still pricey and Mitch doesn’t need them yet (besides we’ve probably got all the information in them in different books that hubby’s had over the years, which are all packed up nicely in our wardrobe). I still have all their pens/pencils/school bags to take care of *shudders* but I might try and get that done today.
We also had a look around a few car yards. Hubby has spied a ‘sports pack’ Falcon (I can’t remember what Ford dub their sports pack models) in one yard that he’s interested in. It’s priced reasonably for what it is, has low kilometers, but what really turned his head was the fact that it’s green *cringes* It’s not even a nice green, it’s a horrible green. Hubby has always wanted a car that’s different and totally recognizable as ours - well, green does that for you… especially bright green! I could live with it and I didn’t exactly say I didn’t want a green car (I did say I didn’t want a red car, because under our sun the paintwork fades at an alarming rate and my little red car looks worse for wear now due to that). Thankfully the yard was technically closed otherwise I’d probably have a green car sitting in my driveway right now :/
It seems Hubby has gotten used to the idea of having money to spend. He spent much of yesterday trying to talk me into buying a jet ski *rolls eyes* Yes, it would be fun to have a jet ski (it’s one water toy I’ve never owned, but love playing with), but it was almost $4000.00, and I’m not quite prepared to part with that sort of money for a toy. Also, it wasn’t big enough for him to use, so that would mean he’d have to get a bigger one to go with the one that the kids and I would be using - nice try, darling!
We did make a stop at the computer store yesterday afternoon *g* I’ve now replaced my printer with a compatible model (I was going to upgrade to a fancier model, but it did the job, the ink was reasonable and I was perfectly happy with it, so justifying the extra dollars was a little difficult). All I have to do is install it now! When I finally decided to go with a similar model hubby asked me if there was anything else I needed while we were there *smirk* He does this every time we go to the computer store, even though he whines about going there.
Me: *jokingly* A laptop wouldn’t go astray.
Hubby: They’re over there *points to back wall* I’ve just been looking at them.
Me: *bubbles with excitement* Really?
Hubby: *feigning impatience* Go and have a look.
So after a thorough look at what they had available I wandered back to hubby declaring that I’d need to do some homework before deciding which one I wanted (failing to mention that this store was great for accessories, but it’s computers were overpriced). I actually think I could get any one of the computers on display in that store for $500 less anywhere else. At least he’s conducive to the idea of a laptop, and I really could have chosen one yesterday and be enjoying the benefits right now, but I won’t just spend money for the sake of it, and I’m still very conscious of price.
That was my Australia Day! No big celebrations or anything *sigh* But then I don’t think I was up for it in the end anyway.
Tuesday we’re going to look at air conditioners! Even though we’re not staying here it adds value to the house (if we sell it) and is worth the investment. We’re planning on ordering it and paying the same day (we know what we want, so it's just a matter of arriving at a price), so hopefully I’ll have a nice constantly cool home within a few weeks :)
Now I should probably go and have a shower, so I can start doing something before it gets hot again. The whole week will be floating around the 37C mark *bah*
