As anticipated, most of my evening was consumed by building modular shelf units.
ealdthryth wrinkled her nose a little after looking at the top of one of them--but they are still quasi-Mission style, match the newer bookshelves, and will have a steampunk table runner on top of them once they've been moved into place. I did have a little trouble with one of the cabinet units--the pre-drilled holes didn't quite line up. A small round hobby file and a few minutes expanding the hole took care of that.
As a side bonus, the styrofoam packing will make an excellent filler for the W.O.P.P. archery targets I am making this week. The last time I tried making a rotating target, the empty box allowed people to shoot and potentially damage their arrows more easily than shooting into a standard target face. With styrofoam filler, the arrows will stop sooner and be less likely to intersect one another. I have to be creative this week and come up with a set of event-themed faces for the targets, and I just realized that I have no poster board.... Time to stimulate the economy again.
Ant Redux
The good news is that the kitties seem to be scratching a little less, but the bad news is that I found fleas hopping around in
ealdthryth's sink when I got home. Grumble Vicious use of hot water took care of that. After I vaccumed the house yet again (primarily to clean up bits of styrofoam), the electricity failed in our neighborhood. Luckily, everything was pretty much put away. However, when
ealdthryth went to the kitchen, flashlight in hand, to get her evening Jetsons' meal of pills and supplements, she discovered a couple of ants wandering around in the cabinet, and even worse, a little crowd of them crawling in and out of one of the pill containers.
Ewww!
I think these were some scouts that made it to the cabinet during Sunday's invasion, and after I sprayed with the 2:2:1 solution, they couldn't find their way back. Even so, I was most displeased, and having to throw out a weeks' worth of vitamins and supplements was rather vexatious. Maybe we should play the Pink Panther theme very loudly to disuade other ants from coming in: Dead ant. Dead ant. Dead ant dead ant dead ant.
Tortitude Fu
AElfgifu did not want to be petted this morning regardless of how coyly and cutely she nermaled. I reached down to rub her ears and stroke under her chin. MWNANH! followed by OW! I now am sporting a 1 inch gash in the palm of my hand where she expressed her displeasure.
No! No! Bad kitty!......Awwwww! Aren't you cute!
Considering the number of times she has been scooped up and been subjected to the flea comb during the last couple of weeks, she is understandably tetchy. Even Ignatius is tiring of this sort of attention.
Shadow Kitty Fu
The absence of electricity provided one bit of entertainment. When we trudged upstairs with the flashlights, we got many shadow puppets of AElfgifu and Ignatius. AElf' obligingly turned so we got a good profile silhouette, Ignatius (being the dumbo he is) kept looking directly into the light, and would squint in puzzlement about how bright it was. We got a good Halloween cat silhouette from him. Too bad our camera doesn't do so well with low light levels.(or we don't understand how to use it in low light levels). By playing a bit, we got a couple of good wall-sized cat shadows.
No. Sometimes it doesn't take much to amuse us.
