The few days I'd been up at the lake had been great. I REALLY loved being able to come up for the entire week instead of just a couple days and Saturday. But I'd been looking forward to Wednesday, because it's the day Steve would join me! He planned on working a half day, then driving up to be at Geneva-on-the-Lake by late afternoon. I was excited to see him and start hanging out with him.
The morning started over at the Big House, with Uncle Greg making breakfast burritos. There was eggs, potaoes, rice, onions and more. I had some eggs, potatoes & rice, but I had them all separate instead of on a tortilla. As soon as I finished, Aunt Sue walked up with two boxes of donuts from Madison's. Even though I was full from breakfast, I went ahead and helped myself to a frosted donut with sprinkles. And it was only OK...I didn't particularly care for the frosting, as it turned out.
While I was feeding Liam this morning I was trimming his fingernails by biting them back. Aurora saw me doing this, and exclaimed "Don't eat him!" I had to laugh. After we finished, I suited up again and the boy and I headed to the beach. On the way there I was snagged by Aunt Amy at the Big House...she wanted me to do some tye-dyeing. I did not want to tye dye. I do not like or wear tye dye. I already have a tye dye shirt from two years ago at the lake that I have never worn. I wanted to get to the beach! I saw the annual tye-dyeing tradition as more of a thing the kids enjoy.
Aunt Amy showed me a floppy beach hat she had set aside for Liam which was pretty cute, if too big. I might have tye dyed it on my own time, but I didn't want to just then, so Uncle Mike said he would do it for me. At this point, I remembered that Liam did have a pure white onesie, but I had left it at home...he, on the other hand, would look pretty cute in tye dye, so I called Steve to see if he could bring it, but he had just left. Ah, well.
Thanks to the watchful eyes of relatives, I was again able to float out in the water on my inner tube floaty life-saving device. We spent some time on the beach before I eventually had to head back up to feed him and lay him down for a nap. Steve finally arrived! And after he got settled in (by which I mean after he had thrown all his stuff in an unorganized pile in our room) we took advantage of Liam's nap to stop by the Sandy Chanty for some off-the-hook delicious lavendar lemonade.
This beverage is one of the main reasons I look forward to coming up every year, and I get at least a couple glasses of it throughout the week. It apparently takes some months to steep to perfection, and it really is just the perfect blend of herb and summer freshness. New this year, the Sandy Chanty came out with their own wine, a honey wine (not mead) that was sweet like mead with the bite of wine...very good. Beth bought a bottle and when it's empty I am going to use it to put lake glass in for Liam, which is kind of a tradition for us to do for the kids.
After that we walked the strip and headed back. Dinner was to be had at Sportsterz - tonight was wing night. I don't care for wings so I ordered a burger with chips. The order took a very long time in coming, and though my burger was good I had to eat quickly so I could get back to feed Liam.
Since everyone was at the lake now, I thought that night would be a good night to play some Euchre. I voiced as much, and it looked good until James just up and went down the strip to hang out with some college folk he found the previous night. All week he had been staying out very late trying to get all the partying out of his system before shipping out in a month and half. Seeing as how he is 30 years old, with a family, the rest of us felt he should be spending time with them and phasing out the partying stage of his life, but off he went to drink and carouse and have a good time, much to the chagrin of his wife.
Anyway, we didn't expect him to come back anytime soon, so Steve and I went out to get some ice cream. We walked by Katie's, but I thought I wanted soft serve. As we were heading to Dairy Queen, I saw Gus's Sandwich stand carried ice cream...and gummy bears were a topping! I love gummy bears on my ice cream. So we stopped and I got cake flavored ice cream with gummy bears. She told me she didn't have many left, so I told her to give me all she had. I counted a good 11 bears, but she said she didn't charge me for them because it wasn't many.
I decided it was way easier to keep sleeping with Liam, so we set up a bed of couch cushions and pillows on the enclosed porch for Steve. He ended up being uncomfortable so the rest of the week he spent on the pull out couch bed at his parent's cottage.
