Geneva on the Lake 2012

Tuesday promised to be a scorcher, the hottest day of the week. Without air conditioning at any of the cottages, the heat advisory was something that needed to be endured, or escaped. We decided to escape the weather by traveling to the nearby movie theater at the mall in Ashtabula. The others had a lunch of pretzel dogs, but I was saving my appetite for movie theater popcorn.

They finished lunch and we promptly headed over to purchase our tickets to see the animated movie "Brave". I should have gotten the special price on the smaller popcorn & soda but I thought I was going to eat more than I did, so I got the large combo, and asked for a good amount of butter.

Sitting down, I began the hour and a half workout of keeping a two and a half month old quiet and occupied during a movie. It was naptime, but either he didn't want to sleep, or the volume of the movie kept him up. He started fussing in his carrier after a short time, so I had to leave my popcorn with Marty to back up a row and feed him with a little more privacy. We stayed back there for some time, he getting less hungry and me pining after my popcorn.

Finishing up, I moved back up a row and put him back in the carrier. He didn't like it. I reached over to try a pacifier. He didn't want the pacifier. I knocked over my popcorn. I felt a little flustered. He wanted picked up and held, or the volume was bothering him, or I don't know, but I had to keep him occupied and my attention wandered from him to the movie and back. It was an enjoyable movie, with likeable music and characters - maybe not the most original story for a Pixar, but left you feeling good nonetheless.

When the lights came back up in the theater, we found butter everywhere...on the floor, on clothes. I noticed the bags advertised 'new eco-friendly composition'. I felt that if the bag didn't do the job of holding butter inside it, in fact did the most terrible job of holding butter I've ever seen, it's not really worth it for it to be made of recycled materials. We hung out for a short while after the movie then headed back to the cottages in the afternoon heat.

Tuesday night at the cottages this year was Boil Night. Scott Baker spiced & boiled many items...seafood, sausage, potatoes, corn, anything that sounded good. (Later I found out he accidentally exploded the bag of spices all over the food, so you had to pick off peppercorns and such of you didn't want it too spicy.) I had been looking forward to it, but decided I wasn't feeling too good, maybe from the heat or dehydration. So instead of eating, I took a nap with Liam when he went down. I felt better after waking up, so I went down to the water with Jess and Marty to cool off before going to bed.

I took my blow up plastic inner tube with me this time and really liked it. I couldn't get as far under the water, since the tube was under my arms and kept my shoulders out, but I liked how I could lean either backward or forward and just float, or close my eyes and relax for a spell. I didn't have to constantly work at keeping myself balanced and upright like I did with the boogie board. We stayed out on the water til sunset, hoping for a good one, but the clouds kept the sun obscured that night.
