I was lucky since my flight wasn’t too early in the day, so I was able to get a taxi to the CAAC Hotel to get a shuttle bus back to the airport. And the taxi ride ended up being about 17 RMB. I don’t know how common this is, but when I worked in Food Service before coming to China we use to talk about our own personal Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays mostly and to a lesser extent our own Hump Day Wednesdays and Thirsty Thursdays. And now I feel bad for Tuesday.

I had six Listening Classes this term. Two for each year: the second year English majors, the second year Chinese majors, and the third year Chinese majors. As I learned from last year I wanted my students to think about what they were watching, work on their audible memory which will help with their listening skills.

Cyhus Chi wanted to go on a Picnic Adventure. So he rented a car and invited Tricia, Eileen, Eva (Eileen’s dog), and I on the Adventure. He got the car and planned the trip and we got food to share on the picnic. The weather was great: the sky was clear and most of the day was not too cold. So I had officially given up on having a dog. I had also decided against a cat since my whole family is definitely more Cat-people than Dog-people not that we hate dogs or anything. Jade had also given up on a dog. When I had showed her the poodle puppies she wanted to have partial rights to the puppy, walking, cuddles, etc.

The thing about this vacation was that technically I was supposed to work the 30.September, but by the time that I learned that. I had already bought my plane tickets. Starting the Tuesday after the break I picked up another class that happens twice a week (Tuesday and Friday 10-12:00). So I was thoroughly enjoying the time I spent not working. ( Read more... )

Before I left China I made sure that everything was prepared for my travels. Since I had originally planned to move to Dalian, my return flight got me to Dalian. When my plans changed I didn’t change my flight since I had left my winter clothes in Dalian with Ashley and planned to pick them up while I was there. There are a few things that I don’t like to translate from Chinese into English (German maybe). Those would be Baijiu (白酒), Shaokao(烧烤), and Jiaozi(饺子).

Baijiu would be what the Chinese translate as ‘White Wine’ the direct translation is ‘White Alcohol’ (which is closer). Baijiu is clear think gin or vodka, the German teacher said that it is ( Read more... )
