There is no easier way to get into the heart of the culture of another world than through the food. The aromas, the tastes, the protocols around how people eat, with whom, when. They don't discuss food in Battlestar Galactica, they just eat it, but when you read through the lines, there is plenty there to imagine.

I loved Choosing Sarah's Reunion, https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4661696/1/Reunion-The-Beta-Version and even though I'm sometimes confused, I'm always in awe. For those who've not read it, you should. I love Sarah Mclachan, and though it may not be apparent, this applies surprisingly often to Battlestar Galactica. (Her songs are so often full of angst, lol.)
