The recent production run of Studio Ghibli films on film4 allowed me to record the lot, and now I'm watching them in chronological order. The Castle of Cagliostro (1979) is an entertaining slapstick piece, involving counterfeit money, and evil Count, a kidnapped princess and a heroic thief. Makes me wonder whether the Princess Bride drew on it for inspiration. But with an even wetter Princess. As in a useless drip.
The second (Naucsissa: valley of the winds) also has a princess as central character, albeit a superhero one in this case. Only half way through at the moment, but I'm wondering how far the whole princess obsession will go....
In other observations, I am a little impressed by the responsiveness of Five to its advertisers - as a result of the chaos in the recent cricket match, the highlights show had ad breaks at least twice as long, such that the auto recording managed to miss both the start and end of the programme!!
