I have discovered the equation for a fabulous day, and Sanskrit mythology, pond water and chocolate are integral to maintaining its equilibrium.
It really was a great day! I met with other members of the new Eta chapter of Phi Beta Kappa and we were lauded for our brilliance this morning. They have an entire day planned to honor us in April, seeing as we're the first class at Elon to be inducted and they claim the process was very selective.
And in Hindu Goddesses, we spent the entire class engaged in exegesis of the first few chapters of the Devi Mahatmya. The Goddess, kicking arse on the battle field with the male gods helpless on the sidelines. Blood, gore, and Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma showering flowers over the whole sloppy mess? Positively glorious. And I read, twice! It's amazing what awful readers college students are; not stumbling over the Indian names, but stupid words like "fiery"! And they have no pizzaz. Get excited about the Devi!
Then I donned my TARDIS hat and booked it to lab. We were assigned the lakes that each group will be analyzing over the course of the semester. Today was dedicated to testing pH, and I was the way-too-happy volunteer who waded out into the questionable mucka-muck to test out the acidity. Waders are officially a new fashion statement. There is something truly trippy about slushing through water and not being able to feel it on your body! I just wish I had had a camera, because I'm pretty sure the image of 4'10" me in a full-sized wader suit out in the middle of a lake with a TARDIS hat was truly epic.
Also, white zinfandel and Sprite make a very tasty drink. Especially when paired with Greek chocolate bars!
I know, I know, no one wants to hear about how wond'rous my day was, but it was so uniquely fun that I had to share.
And I've already got three reviews on my Who fic over at "A Teaspoon and an Open Mind"!
