Austin City Limits Festival, 9.28.08

Oct 05, 2008 17:42

As previously stated, Jay and I spent most of this day apart.

This is what I saw Sunday:

* 12:30pm - 1:30pm Nicole Atkins & the Sea (AMD)

Rating: 5. What an amazing bluesy voice! I need to pick up some of her stuff.

* 1:30pm - 2:30pm The Kills (AT&T blue room)

Rating: 4. The woman complained about the sun, but she still gave a solid performance. Loved the music. Must get some of this, as well. Their music is appropriate for fans of the first album by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Definitely falls under that sexy rock category.

* 3:30pm - 4:30pm Stars (AT&T blue room)

Rating: 4. These guys had fun; music was good; and just yeah... good times! They were much better than I thought they'd be.

* 5:30pm - 6:30pm Okkervil River (AT&T blue room)

Rating: 5. Oh god. Waiting for this band in the sun was torture, but it was worth it to see the whole show up front. Next to Hot Chip, they are the greatest music delivery from this festival. They had excellent band chemistry and had a good time playing, grateful for their Austinian roots.

* 6:30pm - 7:30pm Gnarls Barkley (AT&T)

Rating: 4. I mostly just relaxed, watching the stage's screen, during this show. Still, Ceelo has a pretty amazing voice.

* 7:30pm - 8:30pm Band of Horses (Dell)

Rating: 3.5. I met up with Jay for this band. Perhaps my rating is mostly affected by the heat and the massive crowd making me sweat, but I didn't really enjoy it until the last few songs. I'm willing to give them another try since they had good chemistry and was really appreciative to the audience.

Pics from this day's shows are viewable here.

Jay saw this guy wearing the same shirt as him, so they had this pic taken. Yay for Obama love!

Me and Jay. Heh, you can see my tongue, but it's still a cute pic:

So, would I do ACL again? Possibly, but most of my trips that I want to plan are to places I've never been before, so we'll just have to see. Do I recommend ACL? No doubt, I do. Everyone should experience a music festival at least once in their lives.
