STARBUCKS, THIS IS A RECESSION. STOP TEMPTING ME WITH YOUR AMAZING ASSORTMENT OF TEAS

Half Three quarters of the reason why I prefer Starbucks over Dunkin Donuts (BOSTONIAN SACRILEGE, I KNOW) is because I can't drink coffee. My wallet, my Boston-born-and-bred compunctions, and my sleep habits all despise this, believe you me. But it gives me ( Read more... )

I knoooooow. I saw the sign for the London Fog tea in my local Starbucks and had to do a double take. Bergamot? Vanilla? Can it be...? And then LO, IT WAS. EARL GREY. I'm definitely going to snap up a tall one of these the next time I'm in there. :-O

This, coming from the woman who OWNS AN ESPRESSO MACHINE AND MILK FROTHER that she NEVER USES. Maybe I'll confiscate that so I CAN make these delicious drinks at home (since the 'latte' part of the beverage is the steamed milk!). Until then, it's plain Earl Grey for me!

Yeah, but I like pure espresso, no milk, so why bother. You, on the other hand, love all that fancy stuff, SB has you by the balls. :-D

You like pure espresso, that you have a fancy machine for, that you don't even make. I like tea, with or without the frothy milk. I make it at home, it's straight up, with some sugar or honey, maybe a dash of milk. If I'm out, I'll get the latte (if I'm there, why not?).

And hey-- work has plain Earl Grey for FREE, and I certainly don't pass that one up!!

...Why did this happen right after I left the land of a thousand Starbucks? I may not enter another one of those for months, and here I've been patiently waiting for the rest of the world to pick up on the tea latte concept after finding them at Haymarket...

YOU. You are one of the people who would actually understand why I'm excited about this. LONDON FOG. EARLY GRAY TEA PLUS STEAMED MILK. MARJORIE. *flail* If it's as good as I hope it is, I shall report back.

The thing is, I have this personal taboo against putting milk in Earl Grey. I was taught not to put milk in scented teas (Earl Grey, rose or jasmine teas, spiced teas) and the training is strong enough that that doesn't taste good to me. But I've slowly learned that this compunction is relatively rare among the rest of the tea-drinking world, even England, where they seem to merrily pour milk in every kind of tea. (Although, have you seen the Da Vinci Code movie? Earl Grey demands lemon according to Ian McKellen.)

Vanilla with Earl Grey is very good, and vanilla tea with milk is good, so maybe this would work for me. Hmm.

Interesting, interesting. I find I can bridge the gap between traditionally brewed tea (sugar, only a -dash- of milk) and lattes (sugar and LOTSA warm milk) relatively easily. I really like chai lattes because the chai brewed tea is such a strong flavor for me that I really do NEED all that milk (I even ask for extra milk). But we'll see about the London Fog; I'm not sure how that'll come off.

I read Da Vinci Code, and that's one of my favorite parts-- he's very particular about it, in fact. :D

Mmmm, vanilla. I haven't had a chance to go by Starbucks yet, but you'll be the first to know when I do. :D
