So, we did it. We started feeding her a BARF diet.

I have NEVER seen her eat her food so fast!

Last night, I mixed up 1 cup of salmon and a potato in some hot water in my blender until it liquified. Then, I stirred that into about 3/4 lb of fat ground beef.

She approached the bowl cautiously and licked at the food unenthusiastically.

We woke up this morning to angry voice mail messages.

Our dog had escaped from the backyard in the early hours of the morning. She knocked a hole in some rotten wood and found her path to freedom.

That is, until she got about five houses down from us.  The neighbor who found her was appalled by Trinity's condition.

After calling around to the local animal shelters, I discovered Trinity had been picked up by Animal Control and had been sent on to the county animal shelter. I had to pay a ginormous fee to bring her home, but at least she's here ( Read more... )

I think other people would have given up by now.  You know, they probably wouldn't have bothered trying a do-it-yourself emergency surgery on their cat when they were flat broke and couldn't afford a veterinarian.  But even if they had managed to lop off their cat's tail and watch it heal up properly, they probably wouldn't have spent hours a day ( Read more... )

I've discovered a new way to ensure Armstrong eats.  While feeding him via syringe, if he starts putting up a minor fight and resisting, I just squirt the food on him directly and leave him in a mess.  Being the finicky, fastidious creature that he is, he feels compelled to clean himself via licking.  Hence, whether he likes it or not, he WILL eat ( Read more... )

This morning, on my way out the door, with Isaac already in the car, as an afterthought, I decided to leave Armstrong some fresh food.  I opened the door to his crate and noticed that he was missing significant amounts of hair!  Bare, naked skin affronted my eyes.  The naked skin was around some sores that he'd gotten about a week ago.  Sores I ( Read more... )

Yesterday afternoon I got Armstrong to eat about 35ml of liquified tuna (basically tuna stuck in a blender with water) via the syringe.  He's supposed to eat 40ml, 4X a day.  But, it was a start.  Yesterday evening we talked with Dr. Pippin, our (now Orthodox!) vet friend from Duncanville, and he had a lot of encouraging things to say ( Read more... )
