Oh man, today has been quite a day, and frankly it would be smarter for us to go to bed than to spend time updating LJ, but we actually had stuff to say today, and I don't want it to go stale. First off, we had an impromptu day off, sponsored by our ancient computer and all of the wonderful Windows updates that have incrementally led to our inability to start up our word processor today. At least, we think it was a slow process caused by computer aging added to constantly updating OSes. We've had our current computer for over a decade, and we knew it was going to need to retire soon. We decided the time has come, so we ordered a new computer on the internet and took the rest of the day off.
The other thing I wanted to talk about was the promotional art for the Miraculous movie sequel that Jeremy Zag posted on his Instagram today. It was somewhat alarming, because it featured a character in an exact duplicate of Chat Noir's costume, but that character was decidedly not the same person. ...Although, come to think of it, based on how the Miraculouses work, if Adrien put his mind to it, it could have been him. And he did look very cool, no denying that.
But at the time, it didn't occur to me that it could be the same person, and since Chat Noir is one of our favorite characters of all time, the idea of losing him from the very franchise that invented him was troubling. After a while, we remembered that Adrien and Chat Noir were both kind of selfish jerks in the movie, so we didn't like either of them that much anyway (Athena: except for the speaking voice--amazing as always♥), and we didn't really like the movie overall that much anyway, so whatever they want to do with the sequel is fine, we guess. Except that we always hate it when we lose out on opportunities to hear more of our favorite voice actor.
Anyway, what amuses me most about the whole thing is that I looked at the comments on that Instagram post, and some of them were like, "Yeah, movie!" and some of them were like, "If that's what you're doing to Chat Noir, I'm not watching," and others of them were like, "Why do you always jump to the worst conclusion? You know they can temporarily give someone else their Miraculous, right?"
I do understand (as someone who also jumped to the worst conclusion) why that conclusion was jumped to. Two reasons, in fact. First, it was the first piece of promotional art we've seen for the movie. You kind of expect it to feature a main character, if not the main character. Second, his outfit is exactly the same as Adrien Agreste's Chat Noir costume. In the series, when people trade Miraculouses around, the outfits are usually not the same.
My favorite comments were the ones that were like, "Miles Morales, is that you?" I mean, Zag did thank Spider-Man in the credits to the first movie (along with Dragonball and Sailor Moon (why yes, we did pause the credits to read the dissertation of special thanks)), so it stands to reason that the Spider-verse stuff would become a strong influence. I think I could get behind it if it were an alternate universe sort of thing. Heck, if it's done well enough, I could probably get behind anything. Especially if the speaking voice of the original Chat Noir gets to be the singing voice of the new kid. XDDDD
Today I'm thankful for being in a place where we can up and buy a new computer when (we think) we needed one, getting to finish watching Delicious in Dungeon (sad that there wasn't more of Thistle, but it's still a good series), having a very nice chat with Mom on the phone (which is why we're up late, thanks to time zones), the super fun second opening theme song to Delicious in Dungeon (which is playing in my head right now), and getting to watch the Muppet Movie.
