Today was pretty uneventful, so I think it's time to post some more Miraculous speculations! Again, pretty much in the order that we thought of them. I'm going to start the numbering at one again, because we didn't number our original list, and I can't be bothered to remember what number we left off at.
1. The twin rings (Gabriel and Emilie's wedding rings) can be used to switch places.
Not enough information to say. In fact, based on the information we've been given so far, I'd almost have to say not likely, just because magically switching places hasn't been a thing in this series. On the other hand, non-magically switching has been Felix's whole schtick all along, including the one weekend that's been mentioned twice. Chloe kind of alluded to that weekend, too, so it's been alluded to in Felix, Gabriel Agreste, and Risk. Then Felix switched places with Adrien in Emotion. Dude's just always being somebody else.
Anyway, I've written about this before, but the theory comes from a couple of things. First, when Athena and I were trying to figure out what was so special about the rings, it never occurred to us that they would have an amok in them, especially because Felix seemed to already know there was something special about them. I guess based on the story he tells in Representation, it's possible that he knew all along that they had an amok.
There are several things that don't quite add up about that, though, including that he apparently only "figured out" that his life was connected to his own ring, which means he would be lacking a lot of information until he stole Nathalie's tablet. Also, when he stole Gabriel's ring, he gave it to Amelie and acted genuinely surprised when she gave it back to him. Knowing Felix, and considering that Amelie had only just said, "I don't know how you always get what you want," it's possible (and likely) that he was planning that all along, but we like to believe that he sincerely cares about Amelie and wouldn't have minded if she hung onto it for a while.
But back to how I came up with the switching-places theory. After Felix steals Gabriel's ring, Gabriel takes Emilie's ring off her hand and puts it on his own hand. It could just be to keep up appearances, or because Gabriel needs the ring to remind himself why he's doing the things he does. But, ever the conspiracy theorist, I wondered if it was because the two rings are connected, and Gabriel had to take Emilie's ring so that Felix wouldn't use that connection. This theory is potentially corroborated in Strikeback when Felix tells Gabriel, "If I wanted to hurt you, I could have done it by now," and taps on the ring rather ominously. (That scene could also be corroborating Sentimonster Theory, if the ring holds an amok that gives Adrien life, but they've already Cataclysmed Adrien, proving he's not a Sentimonster.)
The other thing that led me to my theory about the rings letting the wearers trade places is also part of our next item of speculation, which is...
2. Emilie used the twin rings to trade places with Gabriel, to take on the damage caused when using the peacock Miraculous, because Gabriel was the one using the peacock Miraculous all along.
Not enough information, but there is evidence. The first piece of evidence is in the family portrait, where Gabriel is wearing blue. It's not always the case in this show, but often characters wear colors to match their Miraculous, and we know that someone in the Agreste home was using the peacock Miraculous. Emilie is wearing white in that portrait, and white is the color for the butterfly Miraculous, according to the painting at the Louvre that Alya points out in Feast.
We also know from comments made by Mayor Bourgeois and Felix that Gabriel was able to create the most magnificent clothes for people--clothes that reflected their inner beauty. Almost as if he was making Senti-clothing for them. Also, peacocks are pretty much the symbol of dressing up. Gabriel is a fashion designer. Of course he would have used the peacock Miraculous at least once. So I like to think that Gabriel was the one risking himself to use the Miraculous, but Emilie loved him, so she risked herself to protect him, and that's all the more reason Gabriel is going mad trying to save her.
I had a lot more to say about those particular items of speculation than I expected, so we're going to leave it at that this time. More crazy theories to come!
Today I'm thankful for getting to talk about Miraculous, Haagen-Dazs ice cream being on sale, getting to watch more Delicious in Dungeon, the hot weather not being too heinous, and apple juice.
