Falsely accused

There we were, minding our own business and playing Pokemon, when suddenly Athena's iPad started ringing. She was receiving a call via Facebook messenger, from our niece Rosetta's account. Supposedly it was a video call, but the picture was all black. A "disguised" voice started speaking. Someone claiming to be Rosetta's father (who sounded nothing like Rosetta's father, but sounded a heck of a lot like Rosetta trying to use a lower voice) said that Athena had broken their window and owed him one hundred dollars. As Athena started to object, a higher voice (that sounded like Hermie, undisguised) added that she also owes them a silly dance. ...That's a lot to ask from someone who wouldn't even turn on their video.

I think maybe we should have asked what they wanted the hundred dollars for, but considering that it was allegedly to fix a broken window, I guess it makes sense that it slipped our minds. (And we may have been distracted by Pokemon.) I'm curious to know if they thought they could really finagle a hundred dollars out of us...

Anyway, instead of asking more questions, we protested the charges. Obviously we were nowhere near Rosetta's father's window, yet they insisted it was Athena. She asked, "How do you know I broke the window?" They said, "Because the window is broken." "Yes, but how do you know I broke it?" "There was someone who looks just like you." I mean, that doesn't prove anything. It could have been me, not Athena. It wasn't, though. I asked if they had any evidence, like a picture, and they said yes, there was a picture, but they couldn't show it to us because they've been taught not to show pictures of themselves to people on the internet. I'm glad they've learned that lesson, anyway.

The conversation went back and forth for a little while until "Rosetta's dad" said, "I'm going to hang up. You're being rude." Okay, Mr. False Accusations. XD

Then Rosetta...'s father and Hermie waited for Athena to hang up. Definitely not the best executed angry storm-out, but they're still young.

Today I'm thankful for not actually owing anyone a hundred dollars for a broken window (as far as I know...), our amusing nieces, the Hebrew alphabet song, having plenty of time to read manga (to familiarize ourselves for our next assignment), and catching a Girafarig.
