Oh, hi there, batfamily

I gave in, I watched "Under the Red Hood."

Jensen Ackles > my resentment of years of annoying DC Comics writing and editorial decisions.

Neil Patrick Harris! ♥ Voicing Nightwing! ♥♥♥ I am very fond of Loren Lester's voicing of Dick Grayson, it's kind of burned in my brain, but NPH was terrific. And Nightwing was all competent and grown-up and badass and snarky. He got patched up by Alfred! There was all this hurt-comforting kind of stuff in the batcave. Even Bruce was all "go home and rest up." ♥__♥

Dick: He did just thank me, right?
Alfred: I believe he did.
Dick: Weird.

HELLO BATFAMILY I MISSED YOU SO MUCH.

Bruce Greenwood is a trooper and did a lovely job, it say something I didn't spend the entire time thinking "why aren't you Kevin Conroy?" Bruce Greenwood, I salute you. I also liked this take on the Joker, John Di Maggio (and I have no idea who he is eta: oh goodness, he was Bender on Futurama!/eta) had a lot to live up to (possibly had the biggest challenge in that regard) and gave it his own twist. He can definitely do The Laugh.

Jensen Ackles. "Because he took me away from you."

JENSEN FREAKIN' ACKLES.

So, yes, I'd heard that he made Andrea Romano cry during the recording sessions? OH. YEAH.

I so intensely disliked the "Jason returns from the dead" story line. I don't know if it was because the comics writing at that point didn't work for me or I was just entrenched in the lens of stories like A Lonely Place of Dying and Chuck Dixon's run on Nightwing as my formative idea of the batfamily and how Jason's death affected them (and I didn't start reading until long after the "save Jason or kill him" phone stunt, I started reading the monthlies around when Nightwing started, I was a latecomer to comics). I felt bad for him, I don't hate Jason, but I found it difficult to warm to his character in the recent comics I read of his return, before I gave up reading DC Comics entirely for a variety of reasons. Jason Todd has always worked best for me as a symbol and a ghost. Jensen Ackles shook that up and made me accept the story, at least for this movie.

Oh, I am ridiculously easy. That voice, totally gutting.

ETA: OH MY GOD THERE'S AN ORACLE SHOUT-OUT.

This works well if I pretend it's an AU of the animated continuity, which has not hurt me the way the comics have.

*laughs weakly* Yes. Well, I suspected I wasn't truly done with these characters...

under the red hood, batfamily, i can quit any time i want to, i don't have an appropriate tag for this, dcu
