When did terrier become a breed? There seems to be this HUGE issue with people. Everyone thinks that "Terrier" is a breed. I cannot tell you how many times this week I have explained to someone that "Terrier" is a group and includes everything from the tiny 3 pound yorkie to the large 70 lb airdale to the amstaff ( Read more... )

The same time labradoodles became purebred.

Just read one in another community refer to her lab/dane mix as a labradane. I bit my tongue. :/

I saw that one too and kept scrolling down the page. I think my favorite was the woman who insisted that the AKC recognized her mix as a purebred....she called it a Chiweener. She knew it was an AKC recognized breed because her husband told her so. I do have to give the husband credit for getting her to believe that.

Love the icon btw.

LMFAO

She believes him???? I don't know if it's funnier finding the page to prove her wrong, or to just let her believe it...

AKC standards apply to pet grooming?!

Apparently. People keep telling me that the AKC SAYS he shouldn't be cut like that. I then have to tell them that this is a pet and those are show standards. When they go on and on, I will eventually say, "Show dogs are generally kept brushed out. I can't get the mats out without clipping him down." They either agree, or leave.

Well... yes! This one guy called, all IRATE b/c we shaved his golden. The AKC SAYS.... Well, buddy, your WIFE said shave him! He got a fax with his wife's signature on it saying to shave the dog. He never called back.

I groom a Polish Lowland Sheepdog regularly who isn't even allowed to have a sanitary. This dog looks like a tiny OES. She has no tail. She stinks. Her hair is all over the place. It's 115°. It's ridiculous to keep her in full coat in Savannah, Ga. But... The AKC SAYS!

I could go on and on. People are silly. These dogs are pets. It isn't fair to treat them like they're anything else. Or pretend that they're anything else.

I had a friend who had a cockapoo as his family's pet, though she's so old that I'm guessing it was long before they were designer.

When he told me she was a cockapoo, I laughed. A lot. For months, even. ^_^;

When people ask what Emily is (and aren't stupid enough to ask if she's OMG A PIT BULL), I tell them she's a terrier. I don't want them knowing what she is and rushing out to get one because she's cute and well-behaved. She was a MONSTER as a puppy! And still is, occasionally (she snapped at my mom the other day).

i always always always tell people mine are pit bulls when they're being well-behaved because i want people to know that pit bulls aren't monsters. so many people are shocked and amazed that my dogs are happy and friendly and not dripping the blood of human children from their jaws.

(when they're being jerks i call them lab mixes hahaha)

Emily isn't a pit, though, she's a JRT.

Yeah, but people actually think that terrier is a set apart breed. Someone told me the other day that her dog was a "miniature terrier". There's absolutely no such thing as a miniature terrier... There's a miniature bull terrier, I tell her. Oh, NOES, He's not a PIT BULL!!!
