When is the Cesar obsession going to end?! I'm getting really sick of people watching the show and thinking anything and everything can be solved by just walking your dog a tad bit behind you.
But Cesar did it! Really, I saw a whole 10 minutes of him working with one dog. Well ok actually it was more like 8 due to the commercials, since the rest of the half hour was devoted to another dog or two. But in those 8 minutes I saw "magic!" (I actually had a client say that what he does was like magic *headsmack* It's called editing and rarely is there any true follow up)
I love how he gives little wrap ups now at the end of the show so you think everything worked out prefectly. He sits there being all cute and cuddly with a dog. It's hilarious when you actually listen to what he says. "Spot is still trying to be the boss at home but his owners are continuing to work with him daily." Read: he's not cured. And of course he isn't. One session is not enough, but that's what many people think when they see his show. They make it look like the dog is fine now.
It's easy for a stranger with confidence and a strong presence (like Cesar) to work a dog. Children are the same way. They act up with their parents but many times are better behaved with someone new (at first). And after working the dog for 30 minutes to an hour (much of that yanking the crap out of the dog) the dog has nothing left to give a good fight. Mostly because the dog cannot breathe anymore, but hey, Cesar did it!!!
Although he has disclaimers all over the place it seems that everyone out there is trying to do what they see on his shows.
I can't get away from Cesar. Even clients that have been with us for a few years are fascinated with him. Yes I am, too, but more in a train wreck sort of way. And while I was walking my dog one day someone threw out a Cesarism at me. *sigh*
