Pitbulls are still much stronger than goldens. I'm not trying to downplay the possibility of danger involving any animal, especially ones that I do not know, in fact I always do my best to cautious around any dog regardless of breed. But lets just say I'd rather take my chances with retreivers any day of the week, and that I tend to avoid pitbulls as much as possible. The neighborhood and surrounding area I live in and/or nearby is full of people who are highly irresponsible twits who keep pitbulls and don't fix them, and there is just something about that breed that just attracts idiots, particularly of the meth addict kind here and in other parts of Seattle.
Sorry, but just out of experience I can't be as sympathetic as I used to be anymore.
I can't be sympathetic towards anyone who leaves their large dog unsupervised with a small child, regardless of the breed.
I get the whole thing about bad experiences with dogs and their stupid owners. My main point, though, was that people should never assume that a dog will be totally safe around a kid (or anybody, for that matter) just because it's not a "dangerous" breed.
Out of experience, I'd never trust a Retriever just because it's a Retriever. After being attacked by Labs, Goldies and Flats, I do NOT trust any of them without knowing them.
It is unwise to assume so much about a strange dog based on breed alone.
Also, there are more Pit Bulls in my area than anything else and I have yet to encounter a problem with them. But time and time again I have to deal with out-of-control Retrievers. Irresponsible owners own every breed and they are what make dogs dangerous - not breed.
But of course, Jessy (the dog) isn't a pit bull, so of COURSE she couldn't be DANGEROUS!
