I play tug with my dog. But I do not allow others to play tug with him unless they ask first. And I **DEFINATELY** do not let children play tug with my dog. Two questions I have about this story - why was the child allowed to play tug with a dog about twice her weight and size. And secondly why wasn't she being watched? Did i play alone with my dogs as a kid? Yes... but they were much smaller than myself and I had been taught how to behave around all animals (large and small - i lived on a "hobby" farm with horses). Why is this bit of education being left out of kids lives now?
No snark... just irritation as usual from me. Sorry.
I mean, I do feel really badly for the parents, even though they weren't paying attenion because losing a kid sucks... but dumping off the dog when it wasn't even an attack (no matter how provoked) is just heart breaking.
This whole thing is just... wow. I can't imagine being in their shoes. It is horrible they are giving the dog away, and its horrible that they left their little 6 year old alone with their dog. Their frief and blame they must feel must be overwhelming.
I just can't comprehend. Hopefully, this pup gets a wonderful new home, he definately deserves that. And at least they didn't just put him down in their grief and anger.
That's horrible. That's really bad parenting. Asphyxiation doesn't happen instantly, so it's pretty obvious they weren't supervising at all while their kid played with the dog. It's not as though they could just turn their backs for a second and have this happen. But of course, what could go wrong? Everyone knows golden retrievers are sweet and cuddly, not like those EVIL pit bulls that you can't trust around children!!!
Man, you can't trust pit bulls at ALL. They'll turn on you, for real. Just like that! And with those locking jaws... *shakes head sadly* I'm so glad I know EXACTLY where to hit a pit bull to get it to stop attacking.

But of course, Jessy (the dog) isn't a pit bull, so of COURSE she couldn't be DANGEROUS!
