So I discovered the mighty Jason Gerkin's myspace profile and I have to say that I don't remember the guy being so... high?
I mean... I saw Shiner a few times and the guy looked like a prize fighter or something, wailing on his drums with hard-hitting precision that you just don't find with a lot of drummers. But anyway... I digress...
He just looked kinda bad. Pale, unwashed, bad complexion. The guy used to be such a stud. I wondered if it's drugs and rough living.
Maybe I'm just being mean.
I'm going to see him play drums for Open Hand (opening for Fu Manchu) this friday at the Viper Room. The nerd in me is debating whether it is appropriate for me to wear my SHINER t-shirt or not. Of course the nerd in me says it's completely taboo to wear an Open Hand t-shirt to an Open Hand show. But does the rule apply to now-defunct-band-merch that someone in the current line-up was once a member of???
The saga of this SHINER t-shirt being lost for 2 years, then found for a few days, and then lost again for 2 more years is an entirely different story. I may wear it out to a good rock show just to make it up to it.
Then we'll stop for pancakes on the way back.
