I Am In Love...

…with a cat. Okay, let me start by saying that I think my sister’s biological clock is screaming at her that time is running out, but instead of being all, “I want to have a kid!”, she wants to adopt a French Bulldog puppy and dress it up in little outfits. This is actually right on target for her. But there are some issues with this idea. Like ( Read more... )

This could be a big year for you and sis and furry family! I hope she can find a French Bulldog from a rescue. (And when I was searching Petfinders for a dog, I filtered the searches to only those who were housetrained.)

I would love it if we could get a French Bulldog from a rescue but they cost like $2,500 so who would buy one and then abandon it? I'll keep Petfinders in mind though, as that will definitely help! I actually housetrained two puppies at once when I was a teen, one that had a kidney issue and had to go out all the time at first, so between me and Sis I think we can housetrain a dog, but I'd certainly rather not have to if we don't.

It looks like I am probably not getting the cat I wanted. She has issues with dogs and if I got her, it would completely take the bulldog off the table for my sister and I don't want to do that to her. She has her heart set on this dog idea! I am pretty sad about Maleficent though.

She is a gorgeous cat. I've found it OK to have old Leo and young Harry together.I like having 2 cats. Those dog breeds with flat faces have dreadful health and would cost a fortune in vet's bills. I personally don't think it fair to have a cat or dog as a child substitute as they can only be themselves. I've no children, but see my cats as friends and companions.

Good luck with it all. Is your home big enough for the cats to have their own space? I had 2 cats that hated each other for 16 years but coped as they lived in their own rooms with little contact.

Yes, isn't she beautiful? I think Maleficent would do just fine with the younger cats, Kirk & Pippin, but I worry about how my older boy, Roo, will do with me having another cat. He doesn't much care for my sister and he already has to share me with the younger boys while Sis is at work and I just don't want to ruin his final years, I want to spoil him. But I want to spoil Maleficent too!

I like having 2 cats.Sis and I discussed a plan when our older two cats passed away a few years back and we were left with two sets of brothers. Our plan is to always have two sets of siblings with at least five years between them. I think it is good to have two young cats because then they can play with each other and keep each other company when we are busy or not at home. And also having a younger set in the house keeps the older set active. We like the idea of a set of older and set of younger. And Maleficent would throw a wrench in that household order. ( ... )

*hugs* Aww, beautiful kitty and what a complicated choice. I vote for all the cats though the plan with the kittens makes a lot of sense.

What I clearly want is to have Pippin, Kirk, Roo, Maleficent, Parker, Kenzi and Violet (what J wants to name the french bulldog - Violet) and have them all be happy and comfortable and spoiled and have all the time to give all of them, forever. Allo, I would like Papa and Buddy back, since we are talking fairy tales here. I have decided against Maleficent, even though my heart is broken and I feel almost like I had a cat pass away, but she does not do well with dogs and if I got her, J couldn't get Violet. J hasn't gotten this excited about a pet since Zippo passed away, like I think this would be really good for her stress levels to have this little pup at her heels and she deserves it and if I get Maleficent, the dog is off the table. So I made the choice not to get her, even though I am so sad.

And my sister says I can have her if I want, but then I can’t get kittens when Roo dies.

I don't understand. Are you living in your sister's house or why do you have to do what she says?

I personally don't like any kind of bulldogs. I just don't care for their flat faces and like lindahoyland said, they usually have breathing problems and need a lot of vet care. There are so many thousands of lovely dogs and puppies at rescue places who need homes. I would look for a dog there rather than buy a pure bred from some breeder.

I'm a cat person so I am definitely in favor the cats. Maleficent is a beautiful cat and it sounds like she would fit right in. But please do change her name. I associate Maleficent is evil and such a pretty kitty deserves a more pleasant name.

I do live with my sister and on top of that, she is my care provider, which means she does all the animal care; litter boxes, feeding, vet trips. I do snuggles and toys! We made a household decision years back about how we would always have two sets of siblings, an older set and a younger set. I get the next set but if I get Maleficent then I break the house plan and can't get kittens as well. We cannot have six or even five cats in this house - that would be ridiculous. Four is our agreed upon number. And I do have to defer to this because she is the one doing all the work and when you are disabled, you have to depend on others like that.

I admit, I think it is cute, but the breathing issues bother me some. We looked at other dog options and my sister kept picking out ones with a flat-face, so I ( ... )

Cats are unpredictable, aren't they? It could be that Roo loves having another cat around or he could hate it. Are you thinking that he'd be more accepting of kittens than an adult cat?

Are you thinking that he'd be more accepting of kittens than an adult cat?He would definitely be more accepting of kittens. We got Pippin and Kirk as kittens just abut 6 months after I got Roo back from my mom and he was basically living in the basement and it was those kittens that made him come out of his shell again. "Roo, friend, come play! Watch me! Chase me! Love me! Roo, Roo!" That's what I think happened and finally he was like, "Okay, yes, fine, kittens, I will come out and play!" lol If I do get kittens though it wouldn't be until Roo has passed, so he wouldn't have to have his life disrupted in any way for these last few years of his life. He turns 16 in a few days! I feel heartbroken about not getting Maleficent but I think it would be too much for Roo and it would mean my sister could not get the dog she wants because Maleficent does not get on with dogs. I do feel sad about it, like a beloved cat has ( ... )

16! That is amazing. I can completely understand why you would want to give him some undivided attention (and peace).
