I Am In Love...

…with a cat. Okay, let me start by saying that I think my sister’s biological clock is screaming at her that time is running out, but instead of being all, “I want to have a kid!”, she wants to adopt a French Bulldog puppy and dress it up in little outfits. This is actually right on target for her. But there are some issues with this idea. Like ( Read more... )

She is a gorgeous cat. I've found it OK to have old Leo and young Harry together.

Yes, isn't she beautiful? I think Maleficent would do just fine with the younger cats, Kirk & Pippin, but I worry about how my older boy, Roo, will do with me having another cat. He doesn't much care for my sister and he already has to share me with the younger boys while Sis is at work and I just don't want to ruin his final years, I want to spoil him. But I want to spoil Maleficent too!

I like having 2 cats.

Sis and I discussed a plan when our older two cats passed away a few years back and we were left with two sets of brothers. Our plan is to always have two sets of siblings with at least five years between them. I think it is good to have two young cats because then they can play with each other and keep each other company when we are busy or not at home. And also having a younger set in the house keeps the older set active. We like the idea of a set of older and set of younger. And Maleficent would throw a wrench in that household order. I feel so sad about it, but I know the right thing to do is not to get her. Especially if Sis wants a dog in the fall.

Those dog breeds with flat faces have dreadful health and would cost a fortune in vet's bills.

Yeah, the money issue is the only reason I can see that my sister would NOT go for the dog. My cousin is a vet tech and really played up to her how much bulldogs can cost in vet bills and how even then, sometimes they just don't live very long.

I personally don't think it fair to have a cat or dog as a child substitute as they can only be themselves. I've no children, but see my cats as friends and companions.

Yeah, but my sister doesn't want kids, has never wanted kids. She wants a dog apparently. I just think given her age and her sudden urge to get a dog out of nowhere, that it must be some mix up with her biological clock. lol

Good luck with it all. Is your home big enough for the cats to have their own space? I had 2 cats that hated each other for 16 years but coped as they lived in their own rooms with little contact.

Yes, for sure. We have 1,200 square feet main floor and another 600 square feet basement and lots of open space and high up perches and cat beds/areas for them to be away from each other. So that wouldn't be a problem, even with four cats and a dog, which is what it looks like we'll have in the next few years!
