My Family, The Geeks.

So I had a really good weekend, though I am exhausted now. Friday The BFF and I watched some of The Flash. (The Flash/Arrow crossover ep, omg, squee & flail!). The Nephew came on Saturday and went to my mom’s to watch Brave. (We watched Frozen with her last week and I really liked them both, but I think I liked Frozen better. I’m a musical sucker). And then on Sunday we went to my mom’s side of the family’s gathering and then we took The Nephew home and then there was glorious sleep.

So, at the family thing, we played this game called Pass The Popcorn - (I highly rec it if you are a movie geek like my family is). For some reason Guy Cousin has this hate-boner for Russell Crowe. (Glad my little brother wasn’t there because he has a weird love affair with Russell Crowe and they would have had to throw down). Every time a Russell Crowe movie came up - which happened a lot since he is in a lot of movies - Guy Cousin would be all, “Who does Russell Crowe think he is?” and other ludicrous remarks. At one point - and I can’t even remember what the clue or movie was now - a thing came up for a 1999 movie and GC shouts, “Les Miserable!” and I busted out laughing. He goes, “Idk. Idk anything about that movie. I‘ve never seen it.” And I said, “You know why you’ve never seen that movie? Because it has Russell Crowe in it.” He goes, “Fuck that guy!” and my sister adds, “Plus, that movie came out like two years ago, not in 1999.” GC continues to curse Russell Crowe and drink his beer. We leave and two hours after - once we’d dropped off The Nephew - we return home to find a message on our answering machine from a drunken Guy Cousin that just says, “Hey! There’s a Les Miserable movie that came out in 1998! So suck it!” and then he hangs up. Yep, that’s how my family rolls. (I did know that actually because my little brother bought me that movie on VHS years ago. It had Liam Neeson in it and was based on the book, not the musical.)

Also, in the car, we listened to a CD that my sister made for The Nephew last year of Middle-Earth songs. It has all the Hobbit and LotR credit themes, The Shire score, The Misty Mountain score and some funny jokey songs. Apparently The Nephew listens to it a lot because he was singing along. First my sister and I were singing along to “Waiting For Frodo,” and I could hear him in the backseat singing too. Then Flight of The Conchords’, “Frodo, Don’t Wear The Ring,” came on and he declares, “I like this one!” and sings all the words, even most of the rappy bits. (Can’t wait to show him the music video next weekend!). Then we get to Neil Finn’s “Song Of The Lonely Mountain” and he says that this one is his favorite and then proceeds to sing along. He even does the chanting bits. I was really, really exhausted at the time, which does make one overly emotional, but I will not even front…I straight up got choked up and my eyes all filled with tears. Here is my little man, sitting in the backseat, singing along wholeheartedly with so much feeling and geekery and just…I love that little guy so fucking much. Fan-Kids are the best thing this world has to offer!

So, that was my weekend. Now I have a bunch of Christmas stuff to get done before Saturday, when we have my dad’s side of the family and then The Nephew coming home with us afterwards for four days! How about you guys…what Christmas stuff do you have going on?

the nephew, music blahblahblahing, fan-kids, christmas - the magic and the wonder, movie blahblahblahing, sleep now, lord of the rings took my virginity, family circus, arrow - the green hood, the hobbit - unexpected adventures, musicals - life with song, real life, the guy cousin, fannish joy
