Now and then - chipmunks, Sims, Harry Potter, and losyang-ness

Nagkwento na ako in this old entry about how The Chipmunk Adventure was one of my childhood favorites. Well they did a movie pala, to be shown in theaters Christmas 2007, with Jason Lee (from My Name is Earl, among others) as Dave. Is it just me or do the Chipmunks look scary instead of cuddly? Alvin and Simon look like muggers, and Theodore looks like he's planning to eat Earl Dave.

I have a feeling I'm going to hate this movie. There should be a law against messing with classics like The Chipmunks.

It occurred to me that I've been indulging in a lot of old favorites lately. Aside from reading Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys in Swedish, I've been watching the Friends DVDs that Edward gave me for Christmas, and I've also been wanting to buy a copy of The Sims since my copies are in Manila. How nice that in The Sims babies grow into children after 3 days and can take care of themselves no? *sigh* I wish I had the time to indulge in playing The Sims again. Not Sims 2 because I think it's too complicated; I prefer the simplicity of the original Sims' lives. The only essential expansion pack is Unleashed because The Sims isn't complete without pets!

I'm also BEYOND excited about the release of the 7th Harry Potter book next week. I first borrowed my 30-year-old cousin's paperback copy of the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2000, when hardbound copies of The Goblet of Fire had just come out and were covering all available shelves in National Bookstore. I read the first book overnight and a few days later, withdrew enough money to buy all the available books - hardbound because I knew those would come out earlier, and I wouldn't be able to wait for the paperback editions so might as well make my complete collection hardbound right? :D Well, it looks like masisira din naman ang collection ko because I have the Scholastic/American editions but the ones that will be on sale here on July 21 are the British ones. Tsk tsk tsk.

Anyway the most important thing is that I get on the train into the city bright and early next Saturday morning (Edward has already agreed to take care of Annika the whole day because MAMMA WILL BE ON DND - Do Not Disturb - MODE UNTIL SHE FINISHES THE BOOK*). Finally, I get to know if Snape, who IMO is the most interesting character in the series, is as despicable as most people think he is, or if he's been loyal to Dumbledore all along (I'm part of the group that believes this latter theory). I hope my favorite characters, Lupin, Neville, and Tonks get a lot of action, and I don't really care if Harry and Ron die, but Hermione cannot die.

*I wonder if I can do my usual intense 6-hour reading session... when the last HP book came out I was still pregnant with Annika. It's a bit more difficult to concentrate on a book when you have a toddler pulling at your leg and begging to be played with - hindi ko din siguro siya matitiis. Haay, buhay nanay nga naman.

To end this post on a happy note, I saw this today on one of my favorite blogs. Say it with me.... Awwww. That's the sweetest index card I've seen yet, and I can totally relate :) I weigh 130 lbs now, not 108 as I did when we first met... and I still have the stretch marks from pregnancy and am always losyang because I just stay at home and really don't care what I look like... but Edward loves me anyway. There's no need to tell me how lucky I am, because I already know :)
