The new media server is up and running

I finally found a little bit of free time and got my new DVR/media center up and running tonight.

I'm really pleased with the VFD (its a small LCD). You can program it to display information about your PC, like CPU and RAM usage. It also integrates with winamp and I downloaded a plugin so it works with beyond tv.  It's pretty darn cool

I have just over a true Terabyte of storage in it. There are three hard drives in it. One 500 gig hard drive for our recordings which lead to 153 hours of dvd quality recordings. I also slapped in my media hdd which includes my movies and my mp3's from my personal computer into the media server. That hard drive is a 300 gigger. I'll just watch and listen through the network, no big deal. Finally I put in my old DVR hard drive which is a 320 gig drive partition into a 10 gig OS partiton and the remaining as bulk storage.

I still have a few smaller thing to do before its 100% done. I need to install iTunes for the ipods, and move the camera code as well. I need to install some burning sort of software too. I think I'll put my emulators and on there too, I haven't decided yet.

This case was totally worth the 180 I spent on it. It's the quietest case i've ever had. It is a true media server, so it looks like it really belongs in an entertainment center.

I want to install a different skin on the beyond tv front end eventually too.

Now i need to turn the old dvr into teh wife's gaming machine. I'll start that probably tomorrow. She's itching to play zoo tycoon 2.
