Nerdy Goodtime!
I get to start building my new media server tonight.
I'm upgrading our DVR so it will have 3 tuners in it, so we can record more than 1 show at a time. I was forced to do this, because tv show are overlapping 1 minute so can't record a different show on a different channel after the inital show (if that made any sense). I have 1 tuner in the PC now. I'm putting 3 in just to be safe so it will last us for a much longer time.
I figured with this upgrade that I'd actually make it worth while, and turn it into a pure media server. I'm slapping in over a Terabyte of hard drive storage, so I will hold recorded shows, downloaded movies, MP3's and photos. This will help remove some extra cables from my PC, because the DVR will now handle the iPods and cameras. It will be pretty much a full new PC, and I'll purpose the current DVR as my new backup computer.
I got my case shipment from NewEgg yesterday, and the rest of the components are coming today! Man I'm such a nerd.
