I've spent the last week working on my dissertation and you'd think I'd have more done than I do. Guess some of that can be chalked up to a continuing sense of weariness that keeps me in bed until 10am, which is highly unusual for me. Really though, its because I've been working on a number of things at the same time.
#1. A paper for publication.
This little item has been in the works for over a month and is just waiting on a last review from one friend so I can submit it. It sums up some of my research and helps pad my resume for #2.
#2. Application for University of Nebraska.
This is easily my dream job. Be curator of fossil mammals and do a little teaching. I'm not really sure how good my chances are but I lament that I may never see such an awesome job opening for years to come. Needless to say I've been rewriting everything for submission to make it as perfect as possible. I WANT THIS JOB.
#3. The dissertation.
I rewrote my introductory chapter, edited chapter 2, wrote rewrote chapter three, and wrote maybe half of chapter four. The past two days have been spent editing the all the chapters mentioned and then inserting tables and figures. What I have so far feels really good and strong. The plan is to do some more work on Chapter four and send them all on to my committee by the end of next week. Things left to do: chapter five, a lot of figures and tables, and what will be a very large set of appendices. But in terms of actually defending, I'm not too worried about the last just yet.
AND I turned in my application for graduation. Now I have to check some deadlines to see how quickly I'll need to do all of these and get them to said committee.
Progress...
