It would be nearly impossible to see the dark shape hidden several feet back into the shadows of the trees unless one shared the enhanced eyesight of the creature there. It stood motionless, barely stirring the newly budding leaves on nearby branches. The only real clue that something was wrong was the deafening silence in the surrounding woods, smaller animals having fled in the face of an unknown predator they nonetheless feared encountering ( ... )

Draco's attention shot to the side as he heard something thump. He spun around, books and quills forgotten as he reached for his wand. Part of his mind ran down his body to the tracking device at his leg, but the rest took in his position, outside of Hogsmeade, outside of the Manor wards. He was relatively defenseless.

"Show yourself, coward!" he called out, hoping to both draw attention and draw out his opponent.

He glanced around, trying to back himself towards the town while trying to focus on the darkness, hoping to find who was there.

He cursed his lapse in judgment and only hoped he could get back to civilization unscathed.

Oh, how sweet the loss of innocence, even so small a loss as the sudden clamour of danger in the mind. It was almost as heady as the warm rush of blood over lips parched with too long an absence of that sweet nectar.

The scent of fear rolling off the whelp below over powered everying, even the burgeoning scents of spring and new life. The scent of fear and awaiting death called to him.

He lobbed a second stone through the air to land behind the pale figure below, swinging across to a new branch overhead that would put him just above and to the right of his goal.

"Coward, is it, boy?" The gravelly voice echoed slightly in the near emptiness of the newly budding trees. Gathering his legs beneath him, he pushed off into one great leap, landing just in front of and to the left of his quarry.

"Is that any way to speak to your elders," Fenrir growled, a manic grin doing nothing to add joviality to his countenance.

Draco nearly jumped when the next rock hit, spinning around, then nearly falling over as he heard Fenrir taunt him.

He spun around again, then stumbled backwards as Fenrir landed before him.

Draco knew his face was paling, and with the spinning he'd done, he didn't have quite as tight a reign on his bearings as he'd like his opponent to believe.

"Fenrir Greyback," he said low, with far more confidence than he felt. Inside, he was quaking. He tried to breathe slower, tried to ease the fear from his body, knowing the man-wolf in front of him could feel it.

His wand was out, and defensive spells were running through his head. He was only distantly aware of being proud that curses the Ministry would care about weren't his first choice.

"What are you doing here? I have no business with you."

Two white panthers split from Draco's wand and began charging separately. They were following the castor's wishes, finding solace in the two men who had protected and guided him throughout his life. One raced towards Malfoy Manor. The other raced towards Hogwarts.

Each carried a very broken missive: Fenrir Hogsmeade Help

There was something quite satisfying about these increasingly frequent 'quiet evenings at home'. For a man who had lived more than half his life in some form of isolation (self-induced or otherwise) or fear, the idea of such a thing as a 'quiet evening at home' being pleasant had been utterly and completely foreign to him ( ... )

It was an unusually quiet and peaceful day. In the morning he and Narcissa had apparated to the Somerset coast, taking a long and unhurried walk along part of the 630 mile path. Having been suitably exercised, and having enjoyed a warming meal in a small wizard pub aptop a cliff, he was very contented to spend the rest of the day in his chair reading ( ... )

Dean had been having a rather frustrating day- he couldn't seem to focus on studying, on drawing, on the telly, or on anything else. By the middle of the afternoon he was sick of all this, and decided he needed to get out of the house. Since he spent every day in Diagon Alley, Dean decided to head up to Hogsmeade ( ... )

Draco heard the curse and gave a silent cheer. Someone had come to his aid. Someone was going to help.

It wasn't Severus, wasn't his father, but they were both on their way as well. Maybe he wouldn't die today. Oh blessed Merlin.

He tried to pull away, hoping that the spell would startle Greyback enough for him to drag himself away, limp, run, anything to get to safety.

Unable to fully dislodge the beast, Draco groaned loudly with the effort.

The sound of twigs breaking should have warned him they were no longer alone. Should have, but Fenrir was too far gone into the haze of heat and blood as he continued to gnaw and lap at the fragile wrist held within his hand ( ... )

FUCK! Was Dean's only thought when the stunner he'd sent off did little more than knock Greyback down for a moment. Dean's mind was already racing as to what spell to do next when Greyback stood up, using his victim as a shield.

Draco Malfoy.

Draco bloody Malfoy.

Except in this case he was, literally, covered in blood. After momentarily cursing himself for getting into this situation to save Malfoy's ass, Dean met Greyback's eyes.

"Attacking people in broad daylight, are you now?" Dean asked, his voice amazingly level for the amount of adrenaline that was coursing through his system. "Not waiting for the Ministry to execute people for you?" As Dean spoke, his mind was racing, trying to figure out his next move. He obviously could not just start hurling curses at Greyback- Malfoy looked to be in bad shape already, and a misaimed spell would only cause more damage.

Finally, an idea appeared in Dean's mind- one that, if it worked, would hinder Greyback quite a bit and, if it didn't, would not injure Malfoy all that much ( ... )

Lucius arrived, looking frantically about him for a sign of his son.

As Draco's screaming rent the air, he ran in the direction of the noise, his heart giving horrible jolts of fear. If he's screaming he's alive. Hurt but alive. Lucius stumbled as he ran, pushing his legs to run faster than they'd had to in some time.

When he came upon them his eyes moved quickly over the situation. A boy he didn't know. Draco...His stomach flopped at the sight of his son, angry bile rising in his throat. Draco looked awful, there was blood everywhere, he was curled up, eyes fighting to stay open.

Lucius moved to him, a hand on his head gently, he didn't want to hurt him further.

"I'm here Draco," he said.

Lucius looked up to ask the boy where Greyback was, but the struggling figure caught his eye. Wand in his hand already, Lucius stalked forward.

"The boy might have bound you, but I'm going to fucking kill you" he shouted at the figure on the ground.

He lifted his wand, angry as he'd ever been in his life.

"AVADA--"

Not Draco! Not Draco! Not Draco!

As he ran and ran and ran, his mind whirled with horrible possible scenarios. Draco dead, Fenrir feasting gruesomely on the body. As a war veteran, even in the midst of his fear and terror, his own possible actions were also playing through his panic-stricken thoughts.

He would get there in time. Draco would live. And he, Severus, would not give the Ministry another prisoner for Azkaban. (Or two, if Remus did something rash as well!)

His own Sectum Sempra spell could be nicely fatal if properly directed. More than once Severus had cleanly sliced through carotid arteries with the slightest flick of that spell. Granted, it was very Dark Magic, but it was not among the Unforgiveables. He was willing to face Ministry questioning and possible sanctions in exchange for the death of Fenrir.

All that mattered was getting there in timeAnd then he was through the gates, past the Apparation wards, drawing his magic around him even as his legs continued to pump like tireless pistons. He'd followed ( ... )

Dean had been unprepared for the possibility that Greyback would simply toss Malfoy off to the side. However, as the ropes bound Greyback's ankles, Dean found himself only caring that his spell had worked, and that the monster was at least subdued for the moment.

He also knew, however, that it would not last long.

Raising his wand to throw another binding spell at Greyback's wrists, Dean paused when he heard the sound of feet running towards them. Sparing a moment to glance backwards, he caught sight of white-blonde hair, and, for the first time in his life, was actually glad to see Lucius Malfoy ( ... )

When Lupin had finally given him permission to drop the charm, and as soon as he'd heard the name 'Ginny', it hadn't taken long for Dean to figure out where this secret clinic was located. After all, they hadn't walked all that far, and knowing that the youngest Weasley was involved let Dean know there was only one possible place they could be- Weasley's Wizard Wheezes.

Dean nodded silently when Ginny ordered him out of the room, knowing that she would need to focus. At Snape's order Dean nodded again, understanding the importance of the request.

It didn't take long for him to find his way up to the shop and quickly ask Ron if he could use the Floo.

Bingley hadn't yet received notification of Snape's illegal spell, and tensed visibly when Dean quickly related what had happened. Bingley agreed that when he was contacted he would go down to the ministry himself and stall as much as possible. That errand done, Dean returned to the clinic, waiting just outside the room, listening as they worked.

Remus' hands were nearly as bloody as Draco's back from trying to keep the young man from bleeding to death. Years of war and iron-willed control were the only things keeping him from climbing up the walls with the agitation the scent of all that blood was creating. As Severus explained in detail why to the others, Remus added the blood-soaked cloth he'd been using to keep light pressure on Draco's wounds to the pile of bloody clothes Severus tossed into a chair.

The reminder of Severus' actions and the likelihood of Ministry reprisals had his attention, though. He'd not thought about it in heat of the moment, but he knew the spell that had been used. The last thing they needed right now was for a team of Aurors to come down upon the area and start asking questions, possibly locating the clinic and all that would mean.

Thank goodness Dean had been there!

Heaven help them if Nevin was amoung those who answered the call. And it was a possibility if his own presence brought the WCU into this mess ( ... )

No, don't leave! Don't-- The thought calmed as he felt his father's hands on his head. He wasn't leaving. He would be there. Through everything, he was there.

He didn't feel when Severus removed his clothes. He couldn't feel anything. It made him nervous. He was losing it. He whimpered softly, almost as if trying to make sound so he could hear it, so he could know he was still there.

Severus was barking orders. Severus always barked orders. But it had to be bad for him to be barking at Father. Draco couldn't imagine his father accepting orders, but he was there. Wasn't he? Damnit, why couldn't he feel?

The world was black fog, and he couldn't feel anything. He imagined stubbing his toe. Nothing.

Severus...please...Father...why can't I feel you? Why can't I hear you anymore? The voices had become quite muffled, indistinguishable ( ... )
