Vid Rec: Still Stuck on You- Amy Fortuna
Ever since I heard the Jim Byrnes song, Still Stuck on You, I’ve thought it would make a wonderful Highlander vid. Several months ago, I saw a notice about Sweet Charity, an event to raise money for RAINN by auctioning fannish creations such as stories and vids. I had never done this before but ended up winning a vid by Amy Fortuna.
I really wasn’t sure how it would turn out. All that I provided was the title of the song and that I wanted the story about Methos from Duncan’s point of view. The result blew me away. The shot selections were incredible and represented an amazing match for the song. I cannot think of a clip that I would have preferred to see. The rain scene, the traveling scene, the broken vase scene and many others complemented the song. The close up and lingering looks at the expressions on Duncan and Methos’ face were most effective. For example, the look on Methos’ face at the initial meeting and after killing Kristin was great. I caught nuances and expressions that I had never noticed before. Timing the movement in the visual to the beat of the song, especially in the opening scene in the apartment was very good.
For the lines “You've got a back door personality
Around the back is where the lion sleeps”, I expected the use of the horseman scene and it was used effectively. However my very favorite moment of the entire vid was Methos’ expression and head movement to the lion growl in time to the song. It was beautiful and a classic moment. I’m not sure what show that scene came from.
