I support brOTP but...

So I've been reading the massive influx of fanfic coming out of the HIMYM fandom after "Benefits." And there's this thread that bothers me, whether it's the author injecting it out right or (and I think this is the worse of the two) the author using Ted or Lily or even Marshall to say it.

And that's that Barney and Robin are perfect for each other. Even more perfect than Ted and Robin.

Which I rather believe myself, but I'm still scared of where the writers will take brOTP, in the long run. The short run looks really great, and I'm sure we'll see some awesome stuff before the end of the season. But I also think that it's fan consensus that whatever relationship comes out of brOTP is going to be... unusual and not the same as your typical relationship. And I, who has been socialized to characterize relationships in a certain way, have no idea what that's going to look like.

And overall, I have a hard time seeing Ted/Lily/Marshall saying out loud that Barney and Robin are perfect for each other. I'm glad that they're seeing beyond his womanizing facade and understanding that there's a real human being under there, but I don't think it would stretch to "perfection."

ETA: I had a passing fancy today about, instead of a laugh track, they had a squee track instead? So instead of laughing at opportune moments, there would be violently shrill noise every time something lovely happened. *laughs* :] My understanding is that the laugh track tries to take advantage of some kind of communal tendency to laugh, while a squee track would just be a turn off.
