Another weekend with Kyle Cassidy

Spent a fantastic (if exhausting) weekend with a great group of friends and Photographer Extraordinaire Kyle Cassidy.

And things got a little awesome.

You can see our group collection here.

And my personal shots of the weekend here.

Kyle's workshop last year made an enormous difference in my photography. Although I took a lot of other classes and read a lot of other books, the insight I was given then was really the best thing I'd got in a long time. This weekend promises to do me even better.

We shot a firebreathing. Acrobats. An angel. Snow White and an evil queen. Peeps. Plastic aircraft. Depression Era women. Women with parasols and lost in the forest. A frog. Cats. And a costume bear stealing trash while being attacked by a woman in rollers.

In other words, head spinning fun and madness. And, of course, we talked about how to shoot these sorts of things. How to tweak them afterwards. Balancing the ambient light with the flash while keeping the depth of field you want. How to not be a gwac. Gobos, snoots, grids, and cookies. How to put all these things into a portfolio and write an artists statement describing your work, without feeling too pretentious.

I'm already looking forwards to next year.

I'd like to also give a shout out to the people who modeled and helped in a thousand other small ways despite not actually taking the class. Without them, we'd have starved while shooting nothing but Mortimer all weekend. Thank you all very much :)
