This years 4th of July celebration was quite a bit more mellow than that of seasons past...and I think that is a nice change. The past two years I've been in Boston for the 4th...sitting on the Mass. Ave. bridge, listening to the pops play an assortment of "patriotic" tracks--swigging water bottles filled with tasty "mixed" beverages...
This year I was home. The 3rd usually is when the suburbs do fireworks...or is it the 4th? Maybe the 3rd is when Chicago does fireworks? i don't know...usually there are fireworks on both nights. I didn't do either day this year. I felt like staying in last night and today I had a family BBQ with some family friends, my brother and parents. It was nice. Chill.
Tonight I met up with an old friend in Chicago...nice to see him again. Tomorrow I am seeing "The Transformers" and Friday I am doing another FAMILY BBQ at our place--this time with extended family (cousins and such). I am also supposed to meet my friend/former roommate Rebecca from Boston (formerly from Boston anyway)--she's in town visiting her friend. They are doing an art museum or something--I might meet them for a drink after my BBQ is over with. Saturday I am leaving--back to Boston. Sunday is MORE family time--brunch with the Aunt and Uncle who are in town. I might be familied out by the time I get back to Boston!
I've also been getting in some driving while I've been home. I miss not having a car in Boston. My folks just got a new 2007 Camry (their last 3 cars have been Camry's) and I LOVE it...the ride is smooth and it looks really nice from the outside. :-) At the same time...I am glad I don't have a car in Boston--I don't think I would know what to do with myself--I'd definitely have a nervous breakdown driving anywhere around the city.
Hope everyone had a nice 4th.
