Now that my Amy Winehouse concert dilemma is sort of solved...does anyone want to go to see The Puppini Sisters with me when they come to Boston?
Who are the Puppini Sisters? Ever see any movies set in the 30s and 40s...think WWII USO shows...or more recently, Christina Aguilera's "Candyman" video--that sort of girl group that sings really pretty harmonies...."Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B," The Andrews Sisters? Ring a bell? The Puppini Sisters are a British girl group who emulate that sort of singing style. Not only does their repertoire include period pieces, like "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy"...but they do updates of newer songs by Kate Bush ("Wuthering Heights"), Blondie ("Heart of Glass") and even Gloria Gaynor ("I Will Survive").
I highly recommend you check out these girls...there CD was released in the US this past Spring (out earlier in Europe). Check them out on
MySpace. They are really nice girls...they actually commented on one of my funnier MySpace photos and responded to a couple of my emails.
Anyway...they are coming to Boston on August 22nd to this cool-looking jazz club, Scullers. I don't know how much tickets are going to be, but it's a dinner and music club (optional of course) and I think it would be really fun. I've been looking for a nice jazz club in Boston. Who's with me!? A glass of wine...good music. It sounds like quite an evening!
