Weekend Update

May 29, 2007 09:38

There's nothing quite like a Tuesday that feels like a Monday. Right???
I dunno. I guess that it will probably help to make the week seem as if it is going by much faster; at least until Thursday gets here, because that's payday here at Citi. Yea! more money to pay the bills, and then sit and wait for the next payday to come so that we can catch up on the ones that are due then. lol.

As I get older, it seems that life is passing me by at an ever increasing rate of speed. I can think of two factors that contribute to that perception:
  • 1) The anticipation of getting to the next Friday so that we can have a weekend off of work. Work being such a drudgery and chore to be "gotten through." Then when the weekend finally gets here, it zips right by; leaving us to long for the next one to get us out of our work once more.
  • 2) As adults, we (most of us that is) get into the habit of looking forward to that next paycheck so that we can have money to buy the things we want; that is, if there's anything left over after we pay the bills.

    So, between the two of these factors, and I'm sure many more that I haven't touched upon, we end up wishing away all of the time in between these events; making the time seem as if it has slipped between our fingers and passed us by.

    {{sarcastic announcer's voice}} Here's to pay day on Thursday, and next Friday afternoon to usher in another weekend. May the time in between fly by nearly unnoticed so that the drudgery of my work will not weigh me down. LMAO!{{end sarcasm}}
    But seriously, even though I joke, a part of me means it.And Now, for something completely different.PC Resolution.(?).
    So, I picked up my PC from the Geek Squad on Friday. Windows was re-loaded, and minimal programming was re-installed; although none of the programs from my system recovery disks (provided at the time my PC was dropped off) were re-installed as had been promised as a part of my $129 expense for system recovery and re-installation.
    - I had to load the basic programs allowing the DVD-ROM to play a movie, and for the CD-R/RW to create a CD. I even had to install windows media player, which I thought was a standard program within wondows XP.
    - The first thing that I noticed was that the Media Edition functions of my "Windows XP-Media Edition" do not work. Still haven't been able to get them to work even after trying all weekend long. No caller ID function, XP Media Player is completely unable to play DVDs or movie clips, and locks up the PC and graphics card when you attempt to do so. The PC will not even allow you to set up the Media Edition preferences without glitching and locking up the PC.

    Geek Squad also upgraded my IE to version 7.0, which I had not asked them to do. This caused a lot of problems when I tried to re-load my HP (Hewlitt Packard) programs and hardware. Apparently IE7.0 and HP software don't get along very well. It took me until yesterday evening to figure out how to fix all of those bugs after de-installing IE7 and re-installing the upgraded IE6.0+
    After that, and downloading several patches to fix uninstalled and reinstalled HP software, I finally had my PC back to running condition. Minus my enhanced Media Edition functions.

    So, while Geek Squad fixed my virus and boot sequence problems, they did not deliver on their promise to have my PC returned to factory conditions when I picked it up. I'd take it back up to them to have them fix the Media Edition problems (which I think they owe me for my $129 expense and waiting double the promised time for completion), but I'm afraid that they would keep it for another week and end up screwing up more functionality than what they would fix.

    I can play DVDs, play and write CD's (I think. I still need to confirm that last process), access the internet and all of my email and websites, and lastly... I can use my HP Scanjet 4070 flatbed scanner to import print media into my PC. As a slight bonus, I now have an external hard drive to ensure that important family photos and documents are safely backed up and secure from intrusion. Should anything happen to my PC again, we can transfer that drive to another PC without losing those documents and our precious photos of our children and family.

    Bottom line. I'm glad that Geek Squad was able to get me back up and running on my PC, but I'll never use them for PC repairs or upgrades again. I'm sure that I can find more competent and competitive resources for my PC needs.
