I probably won't be online much more before I leave for Florence, so I might as well post now while I have the chance. I'm off to the airport tomorrow night, and then after that I'll have access a 24-hour computer lab in my dorm, so don't get your hopes up -- you haven't seen the last of me for the next six weeks. ;)

I have a poll for you, too. This is about something I may have mentioned to a couple of you in person, although I'm not sure about that. As people have persisted in pronouncing my name differently than I do over the years, I've started to wonder whether I actually like the way I say it. It's not as if I decided to say it that way; my parents were the ones who taught me my name, and of course they got the pronunciation from the name of the island in the Bahamas. I'm pretty sure my way is pretty close to how it would have been said in Ancient Greek (um, according to Mr. Kizner, my 7th grade Latin teacher, anyway...), except they probably would have made the 'eu' more like two vowel sounds instead of one. But I've noticed that in many of my Spanish and Italian classes, the teachers have accented the second to last syllable: eh-le-oo-TEH-ra, because they don't pronounce the h. And I'm starting to like that way much better. So, I'm considering trying out a different version when I go to Florence and meet lots of new people. I think I will do this no matter what if I have the guts, but my question for you is simply which version you like best. If you have any questions about how exactly I mean them to be pronounced (no, I do not know the International Phonetic Alphabet, sorry!), post a comment and I can clarify. ;) LOO is pronounced like "loo," THEH is pronounced as in "theft," and THEE is pronounced as in "thief." If you know me, DON'T feel bad about saying you like one of the other versions better! I like them better too. ;) ETA: Yeah, the first option is kind of any variation on the second-syllable-stressed version: eh-LOO-thra, ee-LOO-thra, eh-LOO-theh-ra, or ee-LOO-theh-ra. If you have a preference among those you can say that, too. :)

Poll What's in a name?

Sorry for subjecting you to such a "me me ME!" poll, but I'd really love it if you could fill this out. :)

And with that, I think I'm off to pack some more and get ready for Italy. See you all on the other side of the Atlantic! :D
