Yuletide letter 2013
Dear Yuletide Writer, thank you! I genuinely love all of these fandoms and would love absolutely anything you write in any of them. Seriously, I mean it. If that's all you wanted to know, fell free to stop reading right now. If, however, you'd like a better idea of my general likes and dislikes and specific prompts for specific fandoms, read on.

Since I've requested to French-language canons, I'd like to ask that you write your fic in English. I find reading fic in French jarring, for some reason. Sorry about that.
Things I would really really rather not read about: Incest, underage and child abuse. Stay clear of these three and you can write anything you want and I'll love it.
As a yuletide specific would-prefer-not-to-read, anything too depressing or porn. But your story takes you down that road, please follow. A good story is more important than these would-prefer-not-to-read-s.
♥ In general, I prefer things that are hopeful and/or bittersweet to the endless grim darkness of the far future.
♥ I'm not really into plotless romance or plotless anything, really. If you want to write lesbian ninjas fighting evil dentists or whatever, I'm cool with femslash, het, maleslash, poly, etc. That said, I go into all stories with no ship feelings so any shipfic will have to make me believe in the ship. When I say 'I ship it' I mostly mean that I'm curious to see how a romantic relationship between those characters would work. That's the most ointriguing part, for me.
♥ Plot doesn't have to mean a 20k+ story, although I wouldn't say no. Something as simple as a roadtrip or finding lost keys will work just as well. I just there to be something physically happening, not just emotionally.
♥ I love canon-divergent AUs and finding out how things would gone if they'd gone differently. On the other hand, I don't really like coffeshop AUs, maybe because I don't drink coffee. Aside from that particular scenario, any kind of setting-swap AU works for me, so if you want to write fic where one half of the cast works for Hannibal Barca and the other for Scipio Africanus? Go for it.
♥ Somewhat related, I like worldbuilding a lot. Explore the setting all you want, I will happily tag along for the ride.
♥ One thing I really really love is the way folklore works and how important stories are and just, if you write me fic about in-universe legends and myths, I will have stars in my eyes forever.
♥ One particular trope I never get tired of is people on opposite side caring about each other, whether in a platonic or romantic sense (friends-to-enemies or enemies-to-friends are just as good). Similarly, people with conflicting interests being forced to work together is also good.
♥ Also, friendship fic. I'm going to prompt loads and loads of friendship fic, because I really love friendship fic.
♥ I don't know if there's a word for it, but I really love it when people take a ridiculous concept and play it totally straight, so feel free to give people superpowers or take them away or have them relive the same day forever to your heart's content.
♥ Which reminds me! Time-travel is brilliant and I love it so. I love all kinds, from 'travelling to the past to save the future/fix the present' kind to the aforementionned timeloop kind to the 'create paradoxes and alternate timelines all over the place' kind to the Bill and Ted's excellent Adventure kind to the 'history is fixed' kind to all kinds, really.

Demon Knights (Al Jabr, Horsewoman, Ystin)
(01-12, 13-18 & 0 and 19-23. Issue 0 is best read when the "Next time" part at the end of the issues indicates it.)
I've requested Al Jabr, Horsewoman and Ystin, because they are totally my favourite characters, but I dearly love everyone in this canon, so if you want to write your fic about anyone else, go for it! (I've written one letter on these folks already, but I'll try to provide new prompts for them here.) Also, this is an OR request rather than an AND request, so if you can't fit the three of them in the fic, don't sweat it.
General prompts: What were doing pre-canon/during the timeskip/post-canon? What about the AU where they're the Justice League? Or the one where they're characters in a D&D campaign? (They all meet in an inn! And I'd love to see hos different from the characters the players are and how alike.)
♥ Al Jabr: AL JABR/SCIENCE OTP! That is all. I just love how comitted to things he is, both with science and religion but also to his city later on. I love it how smart he is and how his brain works in interesting ways ("Just go with it. as long as we don't have to sign anything." and revolutionising medieval transportation and just science, you know?). Also, by his own admission, Al Jabr has studied ALL THE SCIENCE(S), so my otp is totally canon.
Specific prompts: It's my own personal headcanon that Al jabr becomes immortal post-series, so if you want to write the continuing adventures of the Demon Knights, or a reunion fic in the year 3000 or just Al Jabr through History in general, please do. (If you want a more specific History!Al Jabr fic, I'd be interested in seeing a meeting between him and Salah ad-Din or Marie Curie.) I would also love for Al Jabr and Xanadu to have an argument on magic versus science. I'm fairly convinced Al Jabr asked Horsewoman to accompany him at the end of issue 15, so if you want to write the AU where she did or where the Demon Knights never separated, that'd be great (I headcanon them as BFFs, but if you ship them I'm okay with it).
♥ Horsewoman: Gosh, she is so amazing, omg. I love it that she's a brilliant archer who has no qualms about shooting Exoristos people to make a point, that she's accepting of her disability without seeing it as an obstacle to do what she wants to do and just about everything, really. I love that her answer to the point of the human endeavour is "Stop thinking about it" and how pragmatic she is and how she's the only one recognising that maybe splitting is a bad idea you guys.
Specific prompts: What was she doing in Little Spring and how long has she been its protector for? What did she do during the timeskip? What did she do post-series? I'd also love to know more about how her horse bound works. Or how she went from being Sarah to being Horsewoman: was it all at once or did it happen gradually? Do any of the Demon Knights know her name? I've this headcanon that she's BFFs with Al Jabr, so if you could work that in somehow, it'd be brilliant. I'd love a Horsewoman through History fic, maybe one where she meets Julie d'Aubigny? Or if he's old enough, one where she meets Caligula and Incitatus or Alexander the Great and Bucephalus. And if you wanted to write Horsewoamn's Travel Guide to Being Immortal: Who to See, How to Recognise History in the Making and What to Stay Away From? I will print it out and draw hearts around it in glitter pen.
♥ Ystin: To paraphrase myself, Ystin is the knightiest knight to ever knight and that's canon, because who would know better than King Arthur and Merlin? (You! In the back, who said Galahad! Get out!) So, um, yes. Shining Knight is so shiny and righteous (but not self-righteous) and a good person and I want to be him when I grow up. Ystin's kind of my platonic ideal of the knight, what with the crusading for justice and the fighting prowess and the shiny (yes, this bit is important). But at the same time, he has his flaws, such as his arrogance and tendency to insult people in Welsh and his determination re: the Grail. That last one's a flaw that is also a quality because all the best character traits are like that. Also, please don't write Ystin as a woman, since canon only doesn't support that interpretation at all. I'm normally not that attached to canon, but portrayals of trans men are so rare, I like to cherish the few I've got (although, since, canon can be interpreted as saying Ystin is either FtM or genderqueer or intersex, any of the interpretations are fine with me).
Specific prompts: Ystin in History would be amazing. His conception of knighthood, kingship, justice etc would make for very interesting interactions, for example with Louis XIV's "I am the State". I'd also love to know how Ystin found Vanguard or if it was Vanguard that found him. If you could explain how/why Ystin hair went from black to blonde in-universe, that'd be terrific. Also, I'm curious about Ystin's visions: does he wake up randomly shouting "Demon Knights!" every time? Because that could be akward. And Ystin could go around doing nothing but insulting everyone in Welsh and I would still read it.
Fantômette (Françoise Dupont | Fantômette)
I've been hungering for some more Fantômette since forever! These books were some of my favourites as a child and my thing for superheroes,
especially street-level ones, probably comes from there.
I sort of ship Fantômette/Le Masque d'Argent in that kind of fucked-up hero/villain dynamic, if you feel up to that. But if you don't or you prefer gen or if Françoise/Ficelle/Boulotte is your OT3? That is also awesome.
Mostly, I want the further adventures of Fantômette: rescuing people, being a badass, helping the police! Going to space, exploring the ocean floor, having timetravel adventures! Stopping jewel thieves, travelling to parallel universe, starting a rock band! Learning to tapdance, running around on rooftops, stealing submarines! Kicking asses that need to be kicked, making crêpes, discovering the Higgs-Boson! Basically, go wild and I will love it wholeheartedly. I just want more Fantômette in my life. Which isn't to say Françoise isn't awesome in her own right, so if you want to write about Françoise being amazing as Françoise and not Fantômette, please do. And hey, if Fantômette teams-up with Ficelle and Boulotte to fight crime? That would be brilliant.
Locke & Key (Kinsey Locke)
(Welcome to Lovecraft, Headgames, Crown of Shadows, Keys to the Kingdom, Clockworks, Omega and Alpha & Grindhouse. Grindhouse is not part of the main narrative and is set decades previously.)
I've been requesting Locke & Key fairly regularly this year, so if none of the prompts here inspire you, feel free to either check my tag or write whatever you want.
Kinsey: She's kind of the absolute best. I love everything about her, from her protecting Bode from Sam Lesser to her refusing Dodge's ultimatum to her relationship with Tyler to everything. I love it that, even though it was her idea to take out her tears and fears, she takes them back becaus eit's the right thng to do and not having them makes "I love you" mean less.
I would love canon-set fic or post canon fic or canon-divergent fic or really anything. I want fic where Kinsey survives the series and goes to college. I want fic where Dodge's plan suceeds and they all have to live with it (Dodge would get so bored). I want friendship fic with Jackie, Jordan, Zack/Dodge, Jamal, Scot, Tyler, Bode and/or Mandy or really anyone. I ship Kinsey pretty much with anyone she isn't related to, so if that's your jam, I'll bring the bread. I want fic where Kinsey changes the face of fashion by making life-jackets the in thing. I want fic where Kinsey and Jackie make it to the Olympics running team. I want fic where Joe Ridgeway doesn't die and Kinsey is Ophelia in Hamlet, the winter Shakespeare. I want fic, period. (And if Kinsey doesn't inspire you, I'll take fic of anyone! And I'll print it out and stick star stickers on it anyway.)
Lucifer (Elaine Belloc)
(01-25, 26-49, 50-70 and 71-75 & Morningstar Option & Nirvana. Reading order is Morningstar Option than main series. Nirvana is not part of the main narrative but fits somewhere around issues 14-28.)
My favourite things about Lucifer is the sheer scope of the story, the cover art and the characters. My favourite bits of Lucifer are the quiet, world-buildy one-shots between arcs. My favourite favourite bit is issue #58, The Yahweh Dance.
I love Elaine's character arc and how she goes from a scared little girl trying to do the right thing to the most powerful being in all of Creation. Her drive to the right thing is what I like best about her. She will do these things that ask so much of her because they are the right things.
I want all the Elaine fic, all of it.
Pre-canon fic with Elaine, Mona and the grandmothers! Post-canon fic where Lucifer realises he left his promise to Loki unfulfilled and Elaine has to deal with his mess. Canon-set fic with Elaine and Mona as the sisters of mercy, are there any legends past around being closed doors where they don't the Maker to hear? Canon-set fic when Elaine and Mona where paper lanterns-esque. Canon-set fic dealing with Elaine and Mazikeen's roadtrip through Lucifer's Creation. Fic where Elaine bounds with Duma. Fic where Elaine visits Jill. Elaine and Death strike up a friendship after the finale.
If you want to write fic dealing with the aftermath of the finale, feel free to use any/all characters from canon! What does it mean for Mazikeen to be the Morningstar? What's the balance of power like in Hell now? Do Duma, Lys and Mazikeen have a triumvirate? Does Mazikeen ever come back at the bar on a day where Beatrice is there? (I ship, if you were wondering, but I also ship Mazikeen/Lucifer and Mazikeen/Jill and all the Mazikeen ships, basically.) I'd love to know more about Duma too! His relationship with Lucifer is kind of fascinating: Lucifer has no problem accepting help from him at the duel, even though it's like pulling teeth for him to ask help from anyone else. Duma's silence is so very interesting to me, so any fic dealing with that would be great.
Tara Duncan (Caliban Dal Salan)
First off, I have to say I'm only about hafway through L'Impératrice Maléfique, but I'm fine with spoilers.
So, Cal? Is my favourite character in these books, but again, I love everyone.
I really love his sneakiness and the way his reaction to things seems to be both 'this is awesome' and 'this is ridiculous' and the fact that he managed to escape being possessed by the Ghosts tells me everything I need to know about him and how smart he is. I like how small/short he is because heroic short people are pretty rare. Plus, I find him hilarious.
Cal doing Patented Thief on his own and being a badass would be awesome, as would teamfic. I'm fascinated by the little glimpses we get of Cal being a Patented Thief and want more. I also really love his friendship with the spider, so if you wrote them having adventures, it'd be awesome. Cal's freindship with the Castle is also amazing, so, you know, feel free to write that too. (The OTT-ness of the canon is part of why I love it, fyi, so go nuts.) And if you want to do worldbuilding and take Cal on the Thief Marathon of the century where he visits the most impenetrable vaults of Otherworld, that'd be so rad I'd get radiation poisonning.
If you want to write some of the other cast members, I'm fascinated my Magister's back-story or what the Empress' daily life is like. I'd love to see a family reunion for Tara and everyone she's related to ever because it wil be hilariously glorious. I'm wondering how Moineau's parents handle the fact that their daughter and heir of having adventures all over the world. On the whole, I feel like the canon is a bit all-Tara-all-the-time (fair's fair, it's her name on the cover), so I would love a chance for the others to shine.
Ultimate Spider-Man (GWEN STACY)

GWEN STACY! I am so incredibly happy to be able to request her this year. Because if you've been following this thing at all, you know it wasn't a given, also lol Clone Gwen Stacy wow.
She's one of my favourite Marvel characters and definitely my favourite Ultimate Comics character. I love the way she stands for what is right even against Captain America and how kind she is. I love that her first thought is always 'how can I help?' and that she isn't afraind to take matters into her own hands, but that she knows enough to not get in the way.
I want to know about Gwen's life with May in Paris or in New York. (If you're wondering how accurate I want Paris to be, don't worry! I may be a Parisian, but I've long since decided, that, for reasons named Matt Fraction Journey into Mystery/Thor 617, Marvel!Paris is an AU of ours. So you're good to go, so long as you remember with one is Rive Gauche (south bank) and which one is Rive Droite (north bank).)
I want MJ and Gwen fighting crime! Either in canon as non-powered vigilante or as an AU where one of them got spider-powers or is a mutant or IN SPAAACE. Also, Katie Bishop can come too (and Cassie Lang). I would any and all manners of Gwen standing up for what's right with or without superpowers, with or without back-up. (Also, I sort of ship MJ/Gwen and Gwen/Katie, despite the fact that these two haven't met.)
I want to know what Gwen's been up to in the gap year of Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man. I want to know if Gwen ever figured out it was Miles and Ganke at Peter's funeral. I want to know how Gwen feels knowing she shouted at Captain America, is she proud or does she not care? I want to know if Gwen takes first aid and/or self-defense classes or tapdancing lessons or something. I want to know all about Gwen's reaction to the events of Spider-men. Did she ever figure out Peter was lying to her about there being a her in his universe? Did she comfort MJ after Peter left in the Furymobile? Is she actually writing a book on May Parker's awesome choices in parenting? Does she take an interest in cloning and genetics due to her "situation" and become the world's leading geneticist? Does she ever save the day? Does she get involved more than she is in Miles' superhero life? What are her feelings on Jessica Drew? What are her feelings for Jessica Drew? Is Gwen secretly in fandom and writing MJ yuletide fic? Does she regret never getting to know Miles’ mom? Does she go to college and is roommates with a superhero? Will I ever stop asking rhetorical questions?

I would love canon-set fic or post canon fic or canon-divergent fic or really anything. I want fic where Kinsey survives the series and goes to college. I want fic where Dodge's plan suceeds and they all have to live with it (Dodge would get so bored). I want friendship fic with Jackie, Jordan, Zack/Dodge, Jamal, Scot, Tyler, Bode and/or Mandy or really anyone. I ship Kinsey pretty much with anyone she isn't related to, so if that's your jam, I'll bring the bread. I want fic where Kinsey changes the face of fashion by making life-jackets the in thing. I want fic where Kinsey and Jackie make it to the Olympics running team. I want fic where Joe Ridgeway doesn't die and Kinsey is Ophelia in Hamlet, the winter Shakespeare. I want fic, period. (And if Kinsey doesn't inspire you, I'll take fic of anyone! And I'll print it out and stick star stickers on it anyway.)
Lucifer (Elaine Belloc)
(01-25, 26-49, 50-70 and 71-75 & Morningstar Option & Nirvana. Reading order is Morningstar Option than main series. Nirvana is not part of the main narrative but fits somewhere around issues 14-28.)
My favourite things about Lucifer is the sheer scope of the story, the cover art and the characters. My favourite bits of Lucifer are the quiet, world-buildy one-shots between arcs. My favourite favourite bit is issue #58, The Yahweh Dance.
I love Elaine's character arc and how she goes from a scared little girl trying to do the right thing to the most powerful being in all of Creation. Her drive to the right thing is what I like best about her. She will do these things that ask so much of her because they are the right things.
I want all the Elaine fic, all of it.
Pre-canon fic with Elaine, Mona and the grandmothers! Post-canon fic where Lucifer realises he left his promise to Loki unfulfilled and Elaine has to deal with his mess. Canon-set fic with Elaine and Mona as the sisters of mercy, are there any legends past around being closed doors where they don't the Maker to hear? Canon-set fic when Elaine and Mona where paper lanterns-esque. Canon-set fic dealing with Elaine and Mazikeen's roadtrip through Lucifer's Creation. Fic where Elaine bounds with Duma. Fic where Elaine visits Jill. Elaine and Death strike up a friendship after the finale.
If you want to write fic dealing with the aftermath of the finale, feel free to use any/all characters from canon! What does it mean for Mazikeen to be the Morningstar? What's the balance of power like in Hell now? Do Duma, Lys and Mazikeen have a triumvirate? Does Mazikeen ever come back at the bar on a day where Beatrice is there? (I ship, if you were wondering, but I also ship Mazikeen/Lucifer and Mazikeen/Jill and all the Mazikeen ships, basically.) I'd love to know more about Duma too! His relationship with Lucifer is kind of fascinating: Lucifer has no problem accepting help from him at the duel, even though it's like pulling teeth for him to ask help from anyone else. Duma's silence is so very interesting to me, so any fic dealing with that would be great.
Tara Duncan (Caliban Dal Salan)
First off, I have to say I'm only about hafway through L'Impératrice Maléfique, but I'm fine with spoilers.
So, Cal? Is my favourite character in these books, but again, I love everyone.
I really love his sneakiness and the way his reaction to things seems to be both 'this is awesome' and 'this is ridiculous' and the fact that he managed to escape being possessed by the Ghosts tells me everything I need to know about him and how smart he is. I like how small/short he is because heroic short people are pretty rare. Plus, I find him hilarious.
Cal doing Patented Thief on his own and being a badass would be awesome, as would teamfic. I'm fascinated by the little glimpses we get of Cal being a Patented Thief and want more. I also really love his friendship with the spider, so if you wrote them having adventures, it'd be awesome. Cal's freindship with the Castle is also amazing, so, you know, feel free to write that too. (The OTT-ness of the canon is part of why I love it, fyi, so go nuts.) And if you want to do worldbuilding and take Cal on the Thief Marathon of the century where he visits the most impenetrable vaults of Otherworld, that'd be so rad I'd get radiation poisonning.
If you want to write some of the other cast members, I'm fascinated my Magister's back-story or what the Empress' daily life is like. I'd love to see a family reunion for Tara and everyone she's related to ever because it wil be hilariously glorious. I'm wondering how Moineau's parents handle the fact that their daughter and heir of having adventures all over the world. On the whole, I feel like the canon is a bit all-Tara-all-the-time (fair's fair, it's her name on the cover), so I would love a chance for the others to shine.

GWEN STACY! I am so incredibly happy to be able to request her this year. Because if you've been following this thing at all, you know it wasn't a given, also lol Clone Gwen Stacy wow.
She's one of my favourite Marvel characters and definitely my favourite Ultimate Comics character. I love the way she stands for what is right even against Captain America and how kind she is. I love that her first thought is always 'how can I help?' and that she isn't afraind to take matters into her own hands, but that she knows enough to not get in the way.
I want to know about Gwen's life with May in Paris or in New York. (If you're wondering how accurate I want Paris to be, don't worry! I may be a Parisian, but I've long since decided, that, for reasons named Matt Fraction Journey into Mystery/Thor 617, Marvel!Paris is an AU of ours. So you're good to go, so long as you remember with one is Rive Gauche (south bank) and which one is Rive Droite (north bank).)
I want MJ and Gwen fighting crime! Either in canon as non-powered vigilante or as an AU where one of them got spider-powers or is a mutant or IN SPAAACE. Also, Katie Bishop can come too (and Cassie Lang). I would any and all manners of Gwen standing up for what's right with or without superpowers, with or without back-up. (Also, I sort of ship MJ/Gwen and Gwen/Katie, despite the fact that these two haven't met.)
I want to know what Gwen's been up to in the gap year of Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man. I want to know if Gwen ever figured out it was Miles and Ganke at Peter's funeral. I want to know how Gwen feels knowing she shouted at Captain America, is she proud or does she not care? I want to know if Gwen takes first aid and/or self-defense classes or tapdancing lessons or something. I want to know all about Gwen's reaction to the events of Spider-men. Did she ever figure out Peter was lying to her about there being a her in his universe? Did she comfort MJ after Peter left in the Furymobile? Is she actually writing a book on May Parker's awesome choices in parenting? Does she take an interest in cloning and genetics due to her "situation" and become the world's leading geneticist? Does she ever save the day? Does she get involved more than she is in Miles' superhero life? What are her feelings on Jessica Drew? What are her feelings for Jessica Drew? Is Gwen secretly in fandom and writing MJ yuletide fic? Does she regret never getting to know Miles’ mom? Does she go to college and is roommates with a superhero? Will I ever stop asking rhetorical questions?
I want to read everything about Gwen, please and thank you.
